All we hear around the league is everyone is waiting for the 2010 class. James,Dirk,Wade,Stoudamire, and Bosh and the five guys that could turn around a program. Most of the time you see one or maybe two guys change teams at the most. What does the the Knicks have to offer a all star player. They havent won in ten years, you get to play with Zach Randolph. You have no upcoming stars to offer and the team is lousy. Since you arent going to resign Lee and Nate you have Chandler, gallinari, and next year draft to build around. Please tell me what is plan B if you dont get a big time free agent.

If you weren why wouldnt you do it now instead of risking them having a huge year and someone else taking them.

Thats a question for Walsh, but to think that the Knicks would let both get away for nothing is unlikely.

realistically, unless two of the following are moved (crawford, curry, zach, jeffries), there's no realistic shot at any big time free agent w/o doing a s&t in 2010. knicks will have major cap space in the summer of 2011 and can sign someone outright then.

Who is to say the plan isn't to get under the cap to sign 2 FAs. Then the issue of how good you were last season doesn't matter as much.
lol @ being BANNED by Martin since 11/07/10 (for asking if Mr. Earl had a point). Really, Martin? C'mon. This is the internet. I've seen much worse on this site. By Earl himself. Drop the hypocrisy.

There is no possible way unless they trade half the team they can sign 2 FA in 2010. Players want to win and have guys to play with.

So why come they haven't been able to do so in their history?

Houston still remains as the Knicks only big free agent. Not to blast Houston but something doesn't add up? Ok, for all you Chris Childs lovers out there, you can throw him in there too. I still waiting on Mitch Richmond.

Would I like the Knicks to sign LeBron in 2010? Sure - but I'm not counting on it and to be perfectly honest I really don't like the notion of going out and trying to sign a championship. Sure you have to use free agency but I'd much prefer to turn ourselves around - become an interesting team (not a joke) and go from there. If it's not LeBron I think a guy like Chandler (NO) or Amare or Bosh would be great pieces that combined with draft picks, trades & other free agent pick-ups could make us exciting contenders for something in next 3-4 years.

Lots of teams utilize this practice. Josh Smith had a big year last year and he's still a Hawk.

Aren't they RFA's next year? The Knicks can match any offer. There's no risk if they are willing to pay.

Reyes and Wright, the Mets took care of it before the market exploded and they ended up saving a lot of money on these guys.

The Knicks are not playing Curry and they are playing lee starter minutes there are very few players in the nba that average a double double and shoot a high percentage. Nate is scoring at a rate that matches nearly any guard in the league, both players are tradable and both players have value if signed to good deals. You take care of the guys before they really increase their value.

I think that Restricted FA gives DW a chance to trade Nate and/or Lee during the season for younger players or future assets. Second, if they were willing to sign 'cheap', DW certainly would have signed him. Last, worst case scenario on Nate and Lee is that the Knicks pay market price for them, that is, the price that another team was willing to pay.

There is no harm in waiting, the only loss is the possibility of a bargain. You have to note that these are two players that haven't spent any consistent time in the starting lineup.

How about both the Knicks and the NY Rangers sign Lebron to contracts... could be a funny way to pour some more cash onto his contract... he could be like Michael Jordan (Reinsdorf owned both the Bulls and the White Sox while Jordan played for both (well, the Sox minor league), so there doesn't seem to be a rule against that). Though, it wasn't at the same time.

to be fair after we signed up Houston we had a very competitive team for a number of years & then the new cap rules came into effect that pretty much squashed any of our chances of landing a bigtime FA after that... u seriously don't think we woulda been players for Kobe a couple years ago if we'd had the cap space to offer him a deal?

Bingo. Something many people forget is that you have a huge advantage in making trades too if you're under the cap because the salaries do not have to match. You can also wait 'til 2011 to get an FA if it doesn't work out in 2010.

I think the Hawks overpaid for smith. I think smith is a 10 million and he got 12 and Lee is a 9 and he will get 11 I think saving 2 million a year is a huge thing.

It's going to be great when free agents that say they want to play here actually genuinely do - instead of using us to get sweeter deals elsewhere.
