Hey, Jim, try winning!!
In a Q&A with "Television Week," Garden boss and Cablevision CEO James Dolan was asked if being called "names" by local sports scribes hurts him.
"No, that will make the victories that much sweeter," Dolan tells John Motavalli and Alex Ben Block. "I have a team of managers in here and I have a lot of confidence in them.
"My job as chairman of the Garden is to keep continuity with them, to provide an environment where those guys can make logical, clear-headed, not fear-based decisions. And in this market, it's easy to make a fear-based decision. All you have to do is read the papers and think, 'I can't do that trade because the papers will kill me.' You eventually figure out that no matter what you do, the papers will kill you."
Dolan's statement will not be greeted with cheers, especially from Knicks and Rangers fans. Dolan said he has "a lot of confidence" in his "managers." That means he digs what Scott Layden is doing. No need to go any further with that.
As for Dolan providing "an environment" where his management team can make "logical" decisions, well, clearly the Garden boss ain't getting the job done there.
Glen Sather getting Eric Lindros, Layden dealing for damaged goods in Antonio McDyess, Layden and Dolan making Alan Houston a $100 million man, yeah those were all "logical" decisions.
And as far as Dolan's line about the papers "killing you" no matter what you do, let me suggest this to Dolan and his managers: make some solid decisions (are they even capable of that?) to turn around the Knicks and Rangers and the papers will stop "killing you."
This guy Dolan needs to see a medical doctor!!
