When he makes it back healthy and starts showing some of that talent in practice - MDA will get him in there somehow, even if it means Chandler getting some time at the 2 or the 4. MDA found out for certain the last two nights that he can get away with Chandler at the 4 and not give up too much of anything. As for the 2 spot, I don't think Chandler's quick enough or has a good enough handle for that position, but against some teams, they could probably get away with it. Man, I know this is a Gallinari topic but I tell ya, Chandler's got a chance to be a real good one...
I agree with you. Chandler can play the 2,3 and 4. Gallanari can probably play the those position too. With Crawford not able to play in the D'Antoni system because he is simply a one on one player. It doesn't look like he will contribute much this season maybe 5 minutes off the bench or he gets traded. Q-Rich isn't very good and is a hit or miss type player who doesn't bring consistency. The way I see it, it would be great to see crawford and Q gone. I can see Gallo playing sf and Chandler sg. That would be the ideal siuation.
A future starting lineup of:
Duhon pg
Chandler sg
Gallo sf
Zach pf
Lee c
This lineup wouldn't be so bad because Gallo and Chandler are interchangeable so is Zach and Lee.
Why should Chandler play the sg position when he is the better option at sf. I don't get this need to justify a bad pick. I feel terrible for Chandler because the guy is now being asked to do things to try and justify the egos of the front office. Gallinari was drafted as a PF according to Walsh not a SF when asked. They discovered he has a bad back and more than likely can't handle post duties. A better question is why shouldn't Gallinari play the sg spot?
Why? Because Chandler's proved to be versatile enough to possibly play some SG w/o giving up too much on either side of the ball, that's why. The kid's got a chance to be a real special 2-way player and D'Antoni knows it. And the whole idea is to try to get Gallo out there, no matter what combination it takes. Why do you feel bad for Chandler if he has to slide over and play some 2 at times? If it worked (trust me MDA, after carefully experimenting with it first somewhere along the way, wouldn't go to it if the match up wasn't favorable), it'll be good for the team by allowing D'Antoni to probably put his best unit out there at any given moment - that's all it should be about - the team. That's not gonna always work, not against team's with smaller 2s, but against bigger off-guards (McGrady, Vince Carter, etc...) it could work reasonably well.
And enough with calling Gallinari a "bad pick" already. Based on what???? Lack of talent? Not the case - it's crystal clear that he's got the talent to help this club. The fact that he hurt himself? Come on. He's close to returning - let the kid heal up and crack the rotation - then we'll have a chance to better evaluate his game and find out where he fits in. It's a good problem to have, and I'm sure that's what D'Antoni's thinking also.
