aside from people on this board, I never ever come across kicks fans in my life ... I live in the bronx, work in manhattan... granted i haven't been to a game in two years and i'm not the most social person these days, spending most of my time with our newborn baby and work, but this franchise has lost a ton of interest from people over the years. No one cares.

chicago scrub fans have more loyal fans than Knick fans. And they haven't won anything in 101 years now.

Your right, I rarely come across anyone myself, when it comes to the Knicks. But again, you can't blame them for not being present. Management really turned a lot of people off. But if the Knicks start winning some games, then we'll see them start coming out of the cracks and woodwork.

Maybe you should start a Knick fan club and have gatherings for games.

That's why we're here! All the guys I know that I watched with in the 90's have checked out.
It will take a playoff series win and they'll all be back. Until then it's just the hardcore dudes.

IMO, It's the NBA in general that has made some of its fans lose interest. It'll never be the same as it was during the Jordan era. There will never be an athlete that dominates the game he played the way MJ did (btw, I just can't consider Tiger Woods for this).

Man, I remember I was wearing my Knicks gear after the 94 loss to the Rockets and a guy in a store asked me how can I wear that stuff after they choked. I told him I was a real fan not some bandwagon NY puff. My gear was from the late 80s. It pissed him off something awful but it is the truth. The majority of NY sport fans are bandwagon fans. I still recall going to Bull Knick games at the Garden to see kids with their Jordan jerseys on. It was digusting. But hey that's NY.

I was going to post something similar when I read the OP. New York has some of the most disloyal fans Ive ever seen. Even in the 90s it used to piss me off how many Bulls fans there were. And now that the Knicks suck there are even less fans. But dont worry, when we get good again all the fair weather fans will turn in there Celtics hats for the orange and blue.

i don't call it disloyalty... NY fans always want their teams to do well & take it to heart when they don't... they're not blind Kool-aid sippin' fans like say St. Louis Cardinal fans are for example... they're tough on their teams cuz NY is a tough town to live in... but there's no other fan base that supports their teams the way NY fans do if u ask me... just look at the attendance at the Giants/Jets/Yanks/Mets games these days... they're almost always sold out (well maybe not Mets games *cough*)

personally i always wear my Yankees, Giants & Knicks cap around LA even when they're not playing well cuz NY is part of my blood & i'm proud of it but i can understand fans who wanna keep their loyalty on the DL when their team has disappointed them so many times in the recent past like the Knicks have.

That game I went to at Shae Stadium, the last week they played there, I'd say just over half the stadium seats were filled. It was so bare in some parts, that I ended up getting a great seat for myself. It was the beginning of the scrub series and you'd of thought the Mets were 20 games out of first place the way the enthusiasm was there. But I still had a great time.

So your right about the seats being sold out, in the middle of a run for a playoff spot.

Last I checked, people were still going to games last year(for some unknown reason) even when the Knicks were losing by 20 a game. The difference between the Knicks and the rest of the NY teams is that the Knicks have become a national sports embarrassment while losing. Everyone else just lost. Mets fans fair-weather? Yankees fans fair-weather? Giants? Jets? Rangers? No. People support their team through the good times and bad but not many are going to be out in public wearing a Lee jersey or something. A Ewing jersey? Sure. In this town, the good is celebrated. The bad is mourned and ignored.

People go to the garden because it's in such a convient location for one, 2) It's always star studed, 3)the atmosphere, and 4) NYKers love sports.

The yanks have more history then the mets, and whats there to do in flushing. You cant find one single mets fan in the Bronx, but you will find yankee fans all over the world.

During the Scott Layden years the Garden stop selling out. Thomas brought in Marbury and they had their first sell out in a couple of years. That's the reason why Layden got dumped and Thomas got his extension. Thomas' teams sucked more and they still made more money. Damn.

All I know is I've been in MD/DC/VA, Texas, and Louisiana these past few years and whenever I'm at a sports bar and it gets out that I'm a Knicks fan, people apologize and offer their condolences. People look at me like I'm a unicorn or leprechaun or something.
