I know this is just gonna come off like a sour-grapes Knick fan but not for nothing, to not have the Knicks in the thick of all that's good in the league today really sickens me.

I realize that our team's management the past several seasons needs to be held 100% accountable - they knew damn well what the rules were and yet they decided to keep adding quick-fix salary at an alarming rate every chance they had. That, along with some questionable draft choices and personnel decisions, have led to this team's demise.

But I can't help but think that some of these salary cap restrictions are really rediculous. I know you need a cap - the NY Knicks or the LA Lakers and the Memphis Grizzlies need to be able to compete on a level playing field. I get that. It's just that this cap is all about restrictions. For example, if you buy out a player, why does he still count against the cap?? I never understood that. You buy a guy out in a settlement, both parties agree to go their seperate ways, that player usually ends up on his feet somewhere else (unless he's close to retirement) - everyone should be happy. But no, now that team still has the burden of carrying that guy's salary until the contract expires even though the organization completely cut ties with said player and said player is off doing what's right for him. Why????? That's crazy. You get the open roster spot but not cap relief to fill it with a similar salary level player. That one rule right there just kills teams. Buries teams so deep that there's just no escape...

If that rule alone can't be completely changed, maybe it should be altered some. I mean the Knicks should be able to have an out (and I mean a complete 100% salary cap out) if they ever chose to conduct a buy-out settlement with players like a Jerome James who's always been a complete ****ing waste of time or a Stephon Marbury who was brought in here to lead and represent this franchise, but has embarrassed this team at every turn, first almost single-handedly running Larry Brown outta town and eventually turning on the very GM who stuck his neck out to bring him here in the first place. And yet the fans are the ones who are made to suffer as the team's still stuck in the mud, unable to improve...

Sorry, I'm bored and not sure I'm even making any sense but does anyone feel me on this????

i don't think we get any sympathy from any other fan or franchise in the NBA... they already threw us a huge bone w/that amnesty revision they made to the cap rules a couple years ago that allowed us to save on luxury tax payments on the H20 contract & still the Knicks didn't learn their lesson.

the Knicks ownership made this bed, they gotta sleep in it now & wait it out... if they keep making boneheaded moves like the Zach trade to put our franchise even deeper in the mud then really we don't deserve to be a contender in the NBA... then it comes time to decide what we as fans can do to effect change... the only way to do that is not to show up to games unfortunately.

The thing that should be changed is contract system.
NBA should make 2-year contact as the max required.
Teams can spend on star player whatever they want but in 2 years all are free.
If player is junk just dump him, if he is good and team junk he dumps the team.
It looks fair for both sides and a lot of motivation for teams and players to work hard and do things right.

In what other profession in America is there a maximum of 2 year contracts?

lol... every player in the NBA worth a damn would migrate to the Euro Leagues if they tried to pull off some 2 year max on contracts.
