Walsh and D'Antoni have Knicks fans watching with cautious optimism and fans collective fingers crossed for the future. Even the problemmatic presence of Zach Randolph shows signs of changing for the better with a frontcourt that zips the ball around like a rabid porcupine. The media is all smiles as the information embargo has been lifted and video cameras ("say what?") are welcome in practice.... "... man we talkin' bout practice..."

Tatoos on one's dome are strictly prohibited in The World's Most Famous Arena, ergo Marbury is history. The same goes for Quentin Richardsons over the calf therapeutic socks and Ewing Jr not being able to hit a jumper (see Renaldo Balkman fig A)

Allan Houston will stick around as a scholarly pine brother or an executive mediator. David Lee will look great on the break, Nate is a blur, Jamal's hoisting is now legal, Duhon will have Coach K flashbacks ... and Wilson Chandler will play with the unchained melody of a righteous brother. The vibe will be positive, the drama will be minimal and the shift lines will change on the fly faster than you can say "hit the open man".

There is only one significant detail that needs to be addressed immediately, by those decision makers in charge of critical details. This adjustment addresses the need to re-establish the franchise identity, remind the fan base of the prime directive ("just win baby") and cement the new image.

REAL Knicks fans KNOW there is only one thing left to do...

... bring back the classic 1970's Knicks "New York" white warm up jackets!

I love those, but I don't expect them to do it.

""I'm not out here planning to come off the bench, I'm planning to start," Curry said. "But if that's how he sees me playing, that's what will happen. But for now, I'm not planning to come off the bench."

nixluva - I don't expect them to do it either. But few people expected Eddy Curry to get out on the court on Monday either.

Think of it in these terms, in order to be introduced actually wearing one of those fashionable white warmup jackets... you gotta be a starter.

Believe in miracles.

Are you kidding me? Real Knicks fans? Give me a break. These players do not deserve to wear anything from the glory days. Doing so would only disgrace that jersey/warmup/whatever. Maybe when the team actually pulls itself back to respectability with better players who actually compete and care about New York and the Knicks jersey we can bring back the old school stuff. For now, let it rest in history where it belongs.
Thank you, Rick Brunson.

In other words 'don't nobody say nothing'. I believe this team is going to thrive under the new system and those who cannot stay up with the rest will find splintered ass all season long.
I'll never trust this' team again.

This team sucks, end of story. These players are a 33 win team. That's it. If you're talking about 2-3 years from now when hopefully half the roster is overturned then I might agree with you. But right now this team sucks so don't come in here with high expectations and then get let down when you realize they suck again.
Thank you, Rick Brunson.

GKFv2 - you funny.

Certainly, you are entitled to rag on your favorite whipping dudes on the Knicks until you can't breathe, but at some point you might want to let go of the recycled negative vibes, and open your mind to watching a new season reveal itself.

Is your bitter beer face is so locked in place that you may as well not even watch this season develop? Would you also submit that the Knicks 1967 team, which struggled, did not deserve to wear the classic warmup as well?

I think the announcement of my starting lineup, under the dimmed lights of MSG on a crisp November evening, would look quite appealing in the white jackets with the disco collars:

"here are YOUR New York KNICKS..." (In order of introduction)

G Chris Duhon

G Jamal Crawford

F Zach Randolph

F. Wilson Chandler

C David Lee

Geezzz. What a loser. Calm down dude. At least the 33 is only 7 away from the 40 wins I predicted. Your right about 2 to 3 seasons from now, but don't you get some' fun out of this poll?? everyone else seems to be enthusiastic about it! It's a whole new system. That's something to be happy about. Something to look forward to. It's wayyyy better then having the exact team and isiah coming back again isn't it??

What glory days are you talking about? I hope it isn't the Ewing years, because they ended up being losers also. The 70's Knicks are the only glory days we have.
I'll never trust this' team again.

If the team wins 33 games.....how is that a let down with the names coming out next year? Rubio, jennings, bj mullens? Assuming everyone comes out.....the Knicks will be winners regardless.

Just enjoy the season for once. We actually have some stuff to look forward to.

This is the same exact team without Isiah. The problem is that Isiah the coach had little to do with the team achieving 33, 23, 33, and 23 wins the last 4 seasons. Isiah the GM is gone but nothing has happened roster-wise to be happy about. Absolutely nothing. You can have every system on the planet in here. Until the roster changes, the results will remain the same.

Actually that would be a let down because they will fall between picks 8-10. They would not have any shot at those guys. In order to have a shot, they would need to repeat their 23 win season or worse. Obviously they will not but the point is this team stinks and I can't root for quitters. That's the bottom line. People forget about the entire season last year too quickly. All these players quit early on. They don't represent the Knicks jersey. To me, they are a disgrace to it.

Am I happy about Walsh? Yes. D'Antoni. He's okay in my book. The roster? No...not at all.

I can't bring myself to get excited over Crawford chucking a shot, Randolph taking airball fadeaways from the perimeter, Curry being fat, etc.

But the whole point is that this team is not worthy of wearing stuff from the 1970's. They don't even deserve to wear anything from the 90's. Give it time before jumping the gun.

"But the whole point is that this team is not worthy of wearing stuff from the 1970's."

Actually, I thought the Knicks shorts from the mid 1960's, with the built-in belt (see illustration of Howard Komives) was a fashionable statement. Chris Duhon and Wilson Chandler would look good in those shorts.

Danny Whelan's orange jacket was ahead of its time.

LOL. Reading some posts from some fans it makes you feel that way. As if, I have to agree that our roster of 18 is the top 18 players in the league!!!

Being serious, I'm inclined to agree with Greek here, it's the same team full of lunatics. To expect them to produce a winning program is futile.

I'm interested to see how the team runs under Mike, It will probably be more entertaining and more successful, but in the long run a 30-something win team is still absolute trash.

Again, these aren't rookies, they are veterans and in that to expect some drastic changes in all of their games just because of DAntoni is ridiculous.

By changes I mean Crawford shooting 45%+ from the field, Curry blocking 1.5 shots a game, Zach getting the 4apg he's capable of, Lee hitting 15 footers with regularity, etc etc etc....

It's just not going to happen no matter how positive one wants to be.

Tune in for a bit, see what they look like, but there's going to be a lot of the same going on this year as has been for several years with these same turkeys.

That won't change until the roster changes.

The thought of any two of our guards starting in the back court makes me throw up.

McK1 - not really. It was proabably the mayonaisse you put on those french fries

Besides, if that backcourt shift does not work, D'Antoni will go to the bench faster than you can say Sam Williams

i'm firmly entrenched in the start Steph foxhole. Start Him and Duhon together if u must but please have 1 guard out there with the ability to draw fouls.

You got a guy in Steph who used to be an 8 fta per guy and converted at an 80% clip. Here's hoping the coach plans on maximizing that ability vs allowing Q Crawford and Nate to launch 7 seconds or less 3's.
