Too many familiar faces at camp
September 29, 2008
There were plenty of familiar faces at the Knicks annual media day. Probably too many.

“I was talking to Jamal (Crawford) about that last night,” Eddy Curry said. “There are a lot of the same faces. I don’t want to wish away any of my teammates. I love everybody on this team but it’s a little shocking. I’m shocked that I’m still here.”

Donnie Walsh needs to overhaul the roster but there was little change as most of the Knicks either have:

a. contracts that no one else wants
b. their trade value is at an all-time low
c. all the above

Walsh probably made a mistake by not trading Randolph to the Clippers. Los Angeles originally asked for a first-round pick to be throw into the deal but later backed off. Walsh still wouldn’t make the deal and days later the Clippers acquired Marcus Camby.

It is hard to believe that Randolph, Stephon Marbury and Jerome James all made it to training camp. Whether any of them make it to the opening night roster is another story.

I’m just hoping that Jerome breaks his three-year streak of suffering an injury in the first practice.

i'll go w/choice C... & if the Clips backed off on their demand for a 1st rounder then there's no doubt in my mind he made a mistake by not trading Zach... who knows how accurate these rumors are tho.
After 7 years & 40K+ posts, banned by martin for calling Nalod a 'moron'. Awesome.

When a player says he is shocked some players are here and shocked he's still there.....we are lost.

Eddy Curry is not a professional basketball player. I can't believe he has a wife and kids. When are guys gonna be men and put it down for their manhood? Eddy is a pansy.

Yup, you never can tell with these papers because the stories change everyday. They all seem to have magical "sources" and "unnamed GM's" that seem to agree with whatever rumor that's being spread. That being said, if the offer did not include a 1st rounder it's a huge mistake if the guy missed it. I don't think he would get another opportunity like that.
I just hope that people will like me

Walsh was unfortunately pretty sick it seems right after he was hired. I would have to think in retrospect that he could not do his job properly[I mean who could?] we hired a coach who basically was here for a month and took off to be with dram team. We fixated on one player in the draft[again] and it was the same people making the lottery draft call who helped us win 20 games a year. I think it is clear that we did have a reasonable shot to get rid of Zach to LA for what wouldve beena fair deal--cap room and an exchange of 1+2 round picks in 2012[earliest we couldve done it anyway] better deals did not come a long and again we believe that Zach can increase his own value[maybe he can??] the one guy we overpaid Duhon clearly has never shown he is good enough to be a starting PG for 35 minutes on the NBA level. We took an undersized SG when other options were out there. We werent aggresive in the draft after pick 6--we left david lee out to dry and now we have no idea what we are going to do with him $$$ wise. We did nothing with Marbury--

I feel horrible to learn that Walsh had such a horrible disease right after he was hired but it goes to some peoples thinking that a young aggresive up and coming GM like Seattle and Portland landed wouldve been the way to go

They didnt add payroll to 2010 but they are already over the cap

Players are already questioning what is going on--it's a mess and it's not fair to the fans or players.

Briggs, you bring up an excellent point. The man was coming off serious surgery and trying to man phone calls for possible trades. The only guys he had in place at the time were Suhr and GrunWald. How much of the Knicks inactivity was due to his illness. By the way, it seemed it was sensitive enough for Walsh to ask that the information not be disclosed to the public (his constitutional right). It's hard to tell what Walsh position is with Randolph because I recall the man saying on the 2007 draft nite that Isiah did a great job with that trade when asked his opinion. I think he goofed up the Clipper deal. I will go with I heard on the Clipper forums who were stressing on their end that the deal was brought down to them wanting Randolph but wanted something because the Knicks were going to get significant cap space and they just lost Brand such as a 1st round pick but seemed like it was at the point that they would get just a second round pick. I will also go with the fact that Eric Gordon/DeAndre Jordan/Thornton were rumored to be part of that package (these rumors were coming out of LA not NY)but Walsh ended talks. It is possible that Walsh and D'Antoni were down on Gordon, Jordan and Thornton enough to believe that he could get a better offer. It could be that Walsh overvalue Zack's value and believed that there would be more trade activity during the summer.
