According to the New York Post, Stephon Marbury has said that if the Knicks have decided they are going to cut him they should do it now rather than prolong the process.

However, according to the report, with Garden chairman Glen Dolan unwilling to eat the entire amount owing on Marbury's contract, GM Donnie Walsh is giving Marbury a legitimate chance to stick with the team.

"If I'm a distraction and I'm all these different things, why would you want to keep somebody like that?" Marbury asked. "It can't be about the money. If you feel you're better without me, just let me go. If not, let's get down to the business of playing basketball. We shouldn't be talking about me getting waived or not. We should be talking about bringing playoff life back to the Garden like when I got here (in 2004-2005)."

Marbury said he is concerned about becoming a distraction during training camp.

"We need to concentrate on how we're going to win, not whether I'm getting waived or if I'm getting all my money," Marbury said.

He's got a very valid point. EVERY single year the focus has not been on basketball but on everything else. The players don't seem to like Marbury so why continue to have a contemptuous locker room. You went out and spent 30mm on a new coach and probably still paying LB and IT. Why doesnt Dolan just clean the house and start fresh? He's not saving money on a 1 yr contract so just let it go.

Glen Dolan? When did Jimmy's dumbass half-brother take over? Berman is an idiot.
Thank you, Rick Brunson.

True but he is absolutely right about the subject. This all falls on Walsh for prolonging this entire episode.

Season premiere of long loved soup opera "Knickerbockers at the Garden" is set to continue.
All main characters are already into it except of Zeke who went under cover.
We have some new characters with respecter old man, energetic middle age man, and foreign young man. Also some new supporting cast stuff. To add to the drama crashed persona from the past installments is back from grave. Stick to the screens suckers!!!

Marbury says he's got a contract and won't take a penny less in a buyout. He earned it. Blah, blah, blah. Fair enough. I wouldn't pass up $20MM either.

But then he can't say he won't come off the bench in NY. Implication, btw, is he'd be fine coming off the bench elsewhere. Doesn't sound like a guy who wants to play for the Knicks. My view: He's got a contract. If he wants to collect, he does what his boss tells him to.

I'm sick of him. Part of me doesn't want to buy him out because doing so just rewards his self centered behavior. But have to admit, it would be sweet to be done w/ him.

I don't think people do or should stop caring about where (including what part of the entire country) they're going to be working in just because they make a lot of money. If my employer for the past 3 months had said that I might soon be transferred to somewhere else in the nation, I'd darn well want to know where it would be and when it would happen. Yet I could picture someone living in total poverty using your reasoning and saying that I should just be happy I can afford a nice house and car. This reasoning applies even more so if the reports are true that Marbury worked his ass off all summer and is in the best shape of his career.

Yep... Life is unfair to Steph.
But one should deserve fairness. Steph is not.

When does Marbs reach a maturity level where he stops reading the papers, listening to rumors and conducting conversations with his coach and GM through the press. Does this ever happen for him or do we continue to just watch the same movie over and over again?

You're expecting him to change? Come'on...I hope that was sarcasm.

Look, Marbury is what he is. Want the best out of him? Give him the ball, tell him to be Starbury, and tell everyone to follow his lead (or just try to clean up the mess).

Otherwise...just waive the guy already.

He's not Eric Snow (ya know, Larry? And then Isiah? the hell were you two thinking).
He's not Steve Nash (ya, I think Mike D already knows that, but is in high gear of PR Spin mode with this).

Now, onto the meat and potatoes. 22M expiring. Walsh doesn't do buyouts he trades them. Really? What are we getting with 30M of Marbury and Malik prior to the deadline? Kobe Bryant and Pau Gasol? Or... 30M of garbage that nobody wants?

I'd bank on the latter.........
