i read in an espn tidbit about the knicks trying to pry ostertag from the utah jazz. i think there are advantages and disadvantages about this. first we could dump unwanted contracts ( eisley or weatherspoon?) on them to get ostertag who, i think, has a shorter contract. especially with utah struggling to get a team right now since maggete and free agency fell through. ostertag could be a good fit for the knicks as a 7'0 intimidator in the east. before he was in sloan's doghouse (since 99), he had decent numbers. he could rebound and block shots. he also had low postmoves and a jumper. chaney is more patient than sloan so he could flourish.

the disadvantage is that ostertag's esteem is so low that he will suck really bad. like travis knight, a 7'0 waste of space he could become. i can be bias since i could'nt stand ostertag since his kansas days. but i am thinking about the team's needs. and we still need size. a starting lineup against the magic with ward/ eisley, houston, vanhorn, thomas and ostertag will be effective. not great but passable. still, our hopes of winning ANYTHING falls on the knees of a player that is rehabbing in texas right now.

My first thought when i read about this rumor was "Oh my god I knew this would happen!!!" since Ostertag is a perfect fit in Laydens sceme of prey!!!
But my second thought kind of enlightened my bad feelings about this one!
Ostertags contract runs out in a year!
He is a center!
He could be had for some misfit players on our roster since Utha virtually needs a player for every position!

It all depends on the price but im not against this trade principally!

i dont see layden trading eisley, anderson,or weatherspoon because if he did, he would have to admit that he signed them to ridiculous contracts. if we get ostertag its gunna be ward+knight for ostertag, and it wont happen until we know that fwill can backup eisley and start contributing real minutes in real games. this deal would be all about size, since ostertag, knight, and ward all come off the books next season.

first of all the only positive about acquiring Oestertag(aka.the easter bunny) would be to dump spoons and eisley's ugly contract since oesterfag just has one year left..

Next to call him an intimidator has to be the biggest Joke I have ever heard.. What in the hell has oesterfag ever intimidated at any time in his entire life?

Low post moves and a jumper? LOL!!!!!

come on man!!!! come on!!!!!!!!!

For a guy who contracts runs out next yr, picking up ostertag would be ok. #1 he avg almost 2 blocks a game and avg 5 more points in playoffs there is your shot altering middle guy who is known to knock down a few big boys.

Reality Bites...But he does have more size than anyone we have on the floor. If we got rid of Knight, I say Ostertag can't be worse than Knight. What the heck, it's a band-aid, not a sling...but there aren't any marquee 7-footers falling off trees lately...

It wouldn't shock me for Layden to do this. Everyone here repeatedly confirms the Utah bias that Scott carries, so who would be surprised?

I do think his esteem is an issue, because we know New Yorkers are ruthless. But hey, if he sucks...ride the pine in Knight's spot. If he contributes, we got a bonus.

Ostertag?!?!? LayDown should've been put in front of the firing squad long ago... It is consistent that he'd want someone who was punked out for good after the pimp slap that Shaq put down on him. LayDown wants players who are just as soft as him.

Somebody PLEASE close this joke of a thread down ASAP.
Another season, and more adversity to persevere through. We will get the job done, even BETTER than last year. GO KNICKS!

Playa, you know, in spite of disagreeing with you over just about everything... I figured even you wouldn't be interested in Ostertag... but NO, you didn't disappoint... jumping on the "bring Ostertag to N.Y." train.

Good God!!

Actually, I'm glad you made that point - Cause I'm still learning the 'humor-meter' in here...

All-good, though. I don't think ANYONE is on a 'bandwagon'...But like I said, if you're choosing up for a 3-on-3 and you've got TMac on your team, I've got Duncan on mine, and there are two guys left...Travis Knight and Greg Ostertag...

Next pick is yours...which one?

Who wouldn't take Ostertag over Knight for a 3-on-3?? As long as I don't have to pay 'em... LOL

No doubt. If I didn't have to pay Knight, I might actually like the guy.

If we can get rid of ANDERSON or EISLY, then i'm all for it !!
What does DICK CHANEY & DON CHANEY have in common ?? They both accidentally fell into a job they don't deserve & really suck at doing it !!!! Both need to be fired !!!
