So, I have to say, I'm in the dark on this guy (so are the Knicks I guess). I saw him play in a few games last year & a worse NBA guard I do not recall. I'd like to be hopeful or optimistic so I'll defer to those of you who saw him before the Knicks drafted him. I never saw him at Ilinois (even though I generally see a decent amt. of college b-ball). I know he had some moments in this summer, but few of us saw any summer league. So, I ask...what's the impression of him out there. Shooting aside (we know he had an ugly stroke last year & supposedly he's really worked on it). But, for those of you that saw him in college, is he quick? Does he post up smaller guards? Is he dangerous in transition? Hops?
How does his floor game compare to say Kirk Hinrich who seems to be similar physically (6'3", similar build etc.).

last year was tough for him. He broke his wrist in the first summer game, got out of shape and was never able to get on track. Since then he's lost weight, gotten stronger and worked on his jumper. He's a very good scorer, alwats was. Also a tough defender, and regarded as a very heady player.

As for being a good pro the jury is out. He can score on this level, and play defense, but can he run an offense and make the smart decisions he made in college? That remains to be seen.

I like him, and think his good size and skills will allow him to be a good pro. Also he was clearly motivated in the offseason (even with no sign of playing time in the future) to improve all facets of his game. As a result Ward might be expendable and Williams win the backup role.

Alot of GM's really like him, others dont think he will amount to much. Like most picks its up to him. He could be the next Terry Porter, or he could be the next Anthony Carter. Time will tell.

Aside from prayers for McDyess' health, Frank Williams' possible emergence is probably our best hope as things stand now.

Give Frank a few years and 10 to 15 minutes a game playing time - he's a young guard, improving and making a big step up. He's got lots of game, can shoot the rock, and plays good defense. He needs to show a little more hustle, and a little more driving to the hoop.

The only way he's going to improve is game time experience, period.

Purple... he was very dominant at times in college.. but inconsistent. Not super athletic but has a nice change of pace cross-over and sees the court well. Can make the spectacular assist and can score in bunches (despite having a poor jump shot). Very strong with long arms and good size for a point 6'3+. Inconsistency and a questionable work ethic are the reasons he lasted to #25 in the 02' draft. At times during his sophomore season I thought he was better than Jay Williams. The tools are there. Terry Porter is an excellent comparison.

yeah, i saw his college games and were impressed by most. he was the best player on the team and most times on the court. he was quick and could get his shot off or drive the lane at will most times. you are right about his inconsistency. he also seemed bored during his last year in college which is not a good sign for scouts. i think he could be a good starting point guard in the future with the right guidance. he has the skills. he is also the only point guard on our roster that could penetrate and finish consistently in traffic which makes him an asset ( well, until milos comes over).
