GALLINARI VS. ITALIAN FOE By MARC BERMAN Posted: 3:08 am August 21, 2008 There should be a slew of Italians on hand when the Knicks play their preseason opener Oct. 8 in Toronto - the first showdown between Italy's two stars, Danilo Gallinari and Andrea Bargnani. It will be Gallinari's Knicks debut and his first battle against his countryman. There were some scouts raving before the draft that Gallinari, selected sixth this past June, will be a better player than the 6-11 Bargnani, selected No. 1 overall in 2006 by Raptors GM Bryan Colangelo. Colangelo has told friends he believes Bargnani will have the better career. The Knicks also will face the world-champion Celtics in the preseason in Boston. The Knicks are expected to announce their preseason schedule today. They open the regular season Oct. 29 at the Garden vs. Miami.

A year before Bargnani was to be drafted, I remember him being a little more loosey goosey with the dribble. In the nba, he's only been known for shooting the ball. I dunno.......maybe DJ can explain.

Gallinari looks a little more active and involved on the court. He hasn't really disappointed us yet, except for the bad back. I guess we'll see what's up soon enough.

I thought Bargnani was gonna show a bit more than he has, but it's still early even for him. I don't think he's got all the tools that Gallo has tho. This is why I feel he's gonna end up having more impact than Bargnani. It may take some time for him to grow and adjust to this level, but I like his chances.

I think when Gallo takes a big out on the perimeter he'll be more likely to drive by him and that should open things up for him a bit. He has to really hit the weight room tho, cuz he doesn't want to give up too much in the post with bigger stronger PF's. I don't want him to buik up and slow down, but a bit more strength would be good. Basically we want him to be Dirk lite. I'd be looking to aim in in that direction.

Dirk lite is fine with me as long as he has more balls. Dirk is rather easy to contain. All you have to do his play him close and deny him the ball. Gallinari shows the willingness to attack and he keeps his head up and sees the floor well.

We'll see though. I just want people to stop calling him "the italian stallion". That's a Philly thing......this is nyc. With all the Italian history we have in this city along with the mob stereo types all we can do is rip off Rocky? Boooooo!

They call him "Gallo" where he's from.....I guess we can crown him when he proves he's worthy.

bargs is being developed into a center. he's a big dude - his legs are like tree trunks. they're asking him to guard centers, get stronger, learn more post moves and play a more traditional center that can extend the defense and hit the 3. he doesn't have a good a handle as gallo (who will be developed into a 3/4). they are two different players asked to do two different things. toronto is a half court team with bosh playing in the post and calderon/tj controlling the offense surrounded by shooters so he's not being asked to create. w/ d'antoni, bargs would probably be used different and more like i think gallo is going to be used here.

Gallo is not going to be Dirk lite but more Bird lite. Gallo's passing ability is what is going to seperate him from Dirk.

Barganani reminds me of John Gianelli with a little more range.

"THE GALL" showed me a younger version of Kukoc up against inferior talent.

JAMES DOLAN on Isiah : He's a good friend of mine and of the organization and I will continue to solicit his views. He will always have strong ties to me and the team.

Eny you know you my dude but, how can anyone give an educated answer to this question when one guy has played in the league for 2 years now and the other has played in one summer league game?

John Gianelli- a name from the past! A nice rotation player on the Knicks 2nd championship team.

One of my favorite Knicks while he was on the team. You are right about the range on his shot, although lets face it, there was no incentive for him to shoot at the 3pt distance.

I see Gallinari as having more skills than Barganini, but what do I know.

Gallo looks more fit and trim and Bargs has gained some weight since then and no longer moves as quickly. I don't think Gallo is gonna beef up as much. Gallo will still be able to use his pump fake and drive around bigs on the perimeter or shoot over smalls. I can see him working better in our system which will require more motion. Bargs can really shoot it tho. I'm hopeful that Gallo will develop that kind of accuracy from 3.

Gallo really does seem like he might be headed for Kukoc type of ability. I think that game is perfect for a D'Antoni team. This is what gives me hope and it makes it clear why they picked him. A Bayless may score more and be more flashy, but really that's just Steph territory. I think you win with players like Gallo.
