This isn't so much about Gallo, in that Walsh had an opportunity to be creative with the pick. Once Mayo wasn't coming, a trade should of been made with the Blazers? for the 13th, Jack and a couple of there second rounders(at least). Then they should of approached Utah to switch the 13th with the Jazz pick for the return of the (Knicks) 2010 pick (or atleast put further restrictions on it). Conventional view is a bird in a hand is worth 2 in a bush, meaning Utah gets an upgrade now, instead of in 2 years. Is Gallo THAT GOOD not to explore this. And he plays a position that we are at (sf).

talk about a first post!

I doubt utah would entertain giving up what will likely be a lotto pick.

but given how long it has taken gallo to recover- yes, it sure seems like we made a mistake with the pick. but we won't honestly know until the season starts.

I don't think the Knicks wanted to pass on Gallo.

Well if you explore the numbers he is averaging 0 pts and 0 rebounds per game, so technically right now he is a bust
I just hope that people will like me

I have said it before, and will say it again... Whether right or wrong (Only time will tell), I believe that the Knicks wanted Gallinari more than people think- had him 4th on their board, and would have taken him over Westbrook or Love if they had all been available. No GM/Coach will admit this of a rookie, but IMO, I think the Knicks feel he can be a Dirk with more creativity, and better ball handling and distributing skills.

Gallo was a solid pick and given that the only real locks in the draft went before we picked, I don't really see any way to judge what was a good or bad move at this point. All that trade speculation would be a chance to 2nd guess their move if Gallo turns out to be a Dirk like player, so I think they got the guy they wanted and feel good about.

He's got a unique set of talents and skills. At soon to be just 20 yrs old, Gallo has Size, Agility, BB IQ, Passing, Ball handling, Shooting, Swagger of a star... what's not to like

"The gall" was a ny community pick that pleases all those who opposed Isiah's direction in bringing in certain players and for his lack of leadership and indiscretions.
JAMES DOLAN on Isiah : He's a good friend of mine and of the organization and I will continue to solicit his views. He will always have strong ties to me and the team.

Eh, the back and the legs aren't really that important in basketball.

There should be a slew of Italians on hand when the KnicksNew York Knicks play their preseason opener Oct. 8 in Toronto - the first showdown between Italy's two stars, Danilo Gallinari and Andrea Bargnani. It will be Gallinari's Knicks debut and his first battle against his countryman.

There were some scouts raving before the draft that Gallinari, selected sixth this past June, will be a better player than the 6-11 Bargnani, selected No. 1 overall in 2006 by Raptors GM Bryan Colangelo. Colangelo has told friends he believes Bargnani will have the better career.

The Knicks also will face the world-champion Celtics in the preseason in Boston. The Knicks are expected to announce their preseason schedule today. They open the regular season Oct. 29 at the Garden vs. Miami.

That game will be fun to watch. I hope Gallinari's back will be better by then all jokes aside. I am excited to see the guy play some real minutes and Chandler too. I been hard on the pick but once he puts on his Knicks jersey I will be rooting hard for him to prove the great Colangelo wrong. I hate the Raps, sorry dj and playa.

gallinari and bargnani are two different players. only thing they have in common is that both are big men that can shoot from the perimeter but that's about it. gallo looks to be more skilled with the ball. and bargs is more a center than anything else.

2006 draft is shaping up to be one of the worst impact drafts in a long time (outside of bargs HOF worth performances).

here are some summer league highlights if you want to compare the two:

I've been picturing Gallo with the upside of maybe a Detlef Schrempf or Hedo Turkoglu, but we've seen him in such limited action that it's hard to get any idea of what he'll be about.

Perhaps we were spoiled all those years w/ Ewing & Oakley, but my expectation is that starting big men should average 8+rpg minimally - with double-doubles in close to half their games.

With that said, Schrempf didn't really become a true starter until he turned 26 (his 4th nba season), and it took Turkoglu until close to the age of 25 to really become consistently productive.

As talented as Gallo supposedly is, he just turned 20 and is still growing - so as he matures into his body it will be interesting to see how his game evolves. Turkoglu grew a few inches after his first year in the league (21), and he seemed to have a few poor seasons adjusting to his "big man" body. Maybe that's more a result of the team trying too hard to pigeon-hole him as a SF or PF.

Today's game seems to be moving in the direction of players being listed as guards or forwards, not broken down into PG/SG, SF/PF. Versatility (vs specialists) seems to be the name of the game.

Where do you come off with these accusations?? You have no actual facts to back it up with. If you knew Walshs draft history with Indiana you would know what a bunch of crap you are saying. The year Alford came out everyone wanted Walsh to pick him . It was the " Indiana community pick" that would have pleased everyone. Instead Walsh picked the player HE wanted to pick, the one HE thought would be a better player--Reggie Miller.

Another thing they have in common is that both shy away from the post. I don't like that in Big men.
