I don't think the Knicks wanted to pass on Gallo.

There should be a slew of Italians on hand when the KnicksNew York Knicks play their preseason opener Oct. 8 in Toronto - the first showdown between Italy's two stars, Danilo Gallinari and Andrea Bargnani. It will be Gallinari's Knicks debut and his first battle against his countryman.
There were some scouts raving before the draft that Gallinari, selected sixth this past June, will be a better player than the 6-11 Bargnani, selected No. 1 overall in 2006 by Raptors GM Bryan Colangelo. Colangelo has told friends he believes Bargnani will have the better career. The Knicks also will face the world-champion Celtics in the preseason in Boston. The Knicks are expected to announce their preseason schedule today. They open the regular season Oct. 29 at the Garden vs. Miami. http://www.nypost.com/seven/08212008/sports/knicks/gallinari_vs__italian_foe_125371.htm That game will be fun to watch. I hope Gallinari's back will be better by then all jokes aside. I am excited to see the guy play some real minutes and Chandler too. I been hard on the pick but once he puts on his Knicks jersey I will be rooting hard for him to prove the great Colangelo wrong. I hate the Raps, sorry dj and playa. I've been picturing Gallo with the upside of maybe a Detlef Schrempf or Hedo Turkoglu, but we've seen him in such limited action that it's hard to get any idea of what he'll be about.
Perhaps we were spoiled all those years w/ Ewing & Oakley, but my expectation is that starting big men should average 8+rpg minimally - with double-doubles in close to half their games. With that said, Schrempf didn't really become a true starter until he turned 26 (his 4th nba season), and it took Turkoglu until close to the age of 25 to really become consistently productive. As talented as Gallo supposedly is, he just turned 20 and is still growing - so as he matures into his body it will be interesting to see how his game evolves. Turkoglu grew a few inches after his first year in the league (21), and he seemed to have a few poor seasons adjusting to his "big man" body. Maybe that's more a result of the team trying too hard to pigeon-hole him as a SF or PF. Today's game seems to be moving in the direction of players being listed as guards or forwards, not broken down into PG/SG, SF/PF. Versatility (vs specialists) seems to be the name of the game. “That was two, two from the heart.” - John Starks

Posted by playa2: Where do you come off with these accusations?? You have no actual facts to back it up with. If you knew Walshs draft history with Indiana you would know what a bunch of crap you are saying. The year Alford came out everyone wanted Walsh to pick him . It was the " Indiana community pick" that would have pleased everyone. Instead Walsh picked the player HE wanted to pick, the one HE thought would be a better player--Reggie Miller. fishmike

Ug I hate this. The idea of Towns is great until you see what a pussy he is. Jules is a dog. DD was a flamethrower locked up cheap for 3 more years.
First Leon move I hate
