we can acquire a player of any contract size that has two years remaining--that means we can essentially facilitate a salary dump fo a team that wants to get into the 2009 free agent market
if we did a deal with zach Im sure they would accept some salary into 2010 and beyond as long as it's substantially less than the 17mm we owe Zach

We can acquire draft picks for players

We can acquire prospect for players

So taking Zach Curry or Crawford out of the equation

The type of deal we could do as an example is something like

Malik Rose David Lee Fred Jones S+T Mardy Collins[whatever makes the money work] for Larry Hughes Tyrus Thomas and a Bulls 2009

Or perhaps David Lee to Memphis for Kyle Lowry or Criterrion and a Memphis #1 Pick in 2009

something along those lines you can probably find 10-15 clubs or more where we can do a deal

Briggs I hear where you're coming from. I think Walsh will look at things creatively like this. I get the feeling that he's going to explore every possible option that doesn't hurt us for 2010. Waltoni will want to make this team more balanced and functional over the next 2 years and that's the big point. We don't have to get it all done in one big trade. We have time on our side in terms of ridding the roster of big fat contracts and players that don't fit.

Actually I think trying to get into two high lottery position spots and bring back an additional prospect is the absolute best avenue since they wont take contracts past 2010. I bet a dollar you cant name better.

Here we go once again with the trade Lee stuff. Your making the 'win now' case again, when Donnie is clearly setting up for the cap for the next two - three years. It's very simple. Clear the cap, make space and sign the big all-stars. Boston did it and they now have a championship to prove it.
I'll never trust this' team again.

If the Knicks see Gallo as the future at power forward, trading Lee for a pick helps the cap. Lee will get at least seven or eight million when he re-signs. If he doesn't sign with us we don't get a player or pick in return. If he does sign with us, it affects our cap. I wouldn't mind targeting a team that's on it's way down (like Dallas) and going for their 2010 pick and a one or two year contract.

When zach, starbury, curry, Q, jerome, jeffries contracts are up, THATS' what's gonna to help our cap situation. Not some measly little eight mil. for a guy is more productive. That's why it's a two to three year plan to make us into instant contenders. Get used to the idea. We will be knocking on the door in a few years.

So....because the plan is 2010 cap space...we now are interested in filling up our 2010 cap with absolute trash?

What IS it with this. I know it's the common "excuse" for signing Chris Drunkhon. "Oh, but it's only until 2010, so it's great!"

If this team recycles Marbury and/or Malik I'm going to throw up. WE are in need of cap space. Why don't WE let our expirings expire for a change?

My god, imagine THAT!

I could care less what type of salary the Knicks bring on in 2008-2009 means nothing.

There are two types of deals--one that removes cap space in 2010--the other is doing a combination of saving cap bringing picks and prospects.

Personally for me I would accept ANY reasonable deal that included getting rid of Zach Randolph staright up for a contract[s] that dont spill heavility into 2010 meaning if I had to give up randolph and assume contract responsibilities of lets say 15mm-2008 16mm 2009 5mm 2010[knocing 12 mm of the cap--then I would do it.

Also I would like to see us acquire more picks and I would use David Lee as bait to a team that I thought had the best chance of stumbling in 2009[i would only accept top 3 restriction] and a prospect coming back as well. Nate I would be willing to give up for either a first round pick or three second round picks.

Nixluva is posting triangle screen grabs, even when nobody asks - Fishmike. LOL So are we going to reference that thread like the bible now? "The thread of Wroten Page 14 post 9" - EnySpree
