Damn, it's errie but this almost sounds like dj's posting for Isiah's townhall from 2005 except for the cap space point. Talk up new coach and their ability to make players better, Brown, D'Antoni or [insert high paid coach here] all systems go. The got to get creative stuff, rebuild on the fly while staying competitive, attracting free agents because everyone wants to come here. Kobe still wants to be a Knick talk right on, D-Wade still on board check, Lebron still available check. Wait no more Rasheed talk. Marbury working out hard in the summer for the new coach, check. Crawford will be an all-star this season prediction, check. And of course the standard, "why I selected [possible draft day bust] over [future NBA star]" speech. Only thing missing is the James/Duhon signing justification.
ultimately, it comes down to actions and not words. and walsh said as much. he said he knows the team needs changing - the record the past 4 years tell us this. but he's not sure what needs changing just yet, so that's what this season will dictate. he said the team has to earn the respect of the fans back and that ultimately, we'll know in a few years (based on wins) whether walsh did a good job or not.
something i didn't put in but a story he talked about. he talked about his start in indiana. he talked about how back then, there was no free agency so building a team to a top level was really a 6/7 year process. he said when he started, he had vern fleming and 4 pf's. so he said he had to get a sg, sf, and a center. and he had to do it in the draft. so he took chuck person. reggie miller. and rik smits. then he said it will take them 3 years or so to get going and then they will be ready. so his 6-7 year process worked out. he said tho, that in this day and age, with free agency, it shouldn't take 6-7 years. it should take 3 years or so to get that team ready so that's another reason why cap room is important in a few seasons.
side note, he actually used rik smits as a comparison to eddy. alot of people didn't think he would be a bigtime center or help them win, and he wasn't a world class defender, but he was a good piece for them.
