The most logical move for the Knicks is to acquire Derrick Coleman (Salary of $8.7) in exchange for either Mark Jackson or Travis Knight, whichever Charlotte needs to make the deal fly. NY may also have to throw in Michael Wright. This allows NY to use the $4.5 M exception. Word out of Charlotte is that DC is in awesome shape and rededicated; it's possible that Charlotte may now decide he's untouchable, but NY needs to make inquiry now. DC is big and strong enough to play C on the Knicks.

If we get the exception, how do we use it?

Obviously we need size....but there is not much out there. Maybe Chris Gatling...I think he is 6'10" so he could be a F/C guy for us. Other than that, I don't think there are any centers worth $4 million available.

Can we trade the exception for picks or another player??

Is it possible to sign and trade Mason, or can only Miami work that type of deal? If we could, sign and trade Mason, package him with Ward or Jax and get Cassell from Milwaukee?

If nothing else, I say we throw a portion of it towards Polynice. I just think we are hurting for some size.

I really think we need to stay away from Milwaukee mainly because a trade with them would likely spell Mason to the Bucks. GS is said to be interested in the exception and if so, we could offer it straight up for Adonal Foyle. That way they could match Houston's offer sheet for Jackson and have money to spare. Luckily we have some good options, but this looks like our best.

We don't have the exception yet guys.

LJ accepted a buyout but it doesn't necesseraly mean that we'll have an exception. As LJ hasn't played since March, the league would probably rule that as LJ's injury happened last season and we're past October 1st then the Knicks can't have an exception according to the CBA.

trade it to cleaveland:

Cleaveland why? Because they have 5 Centers. 4 garenteed contracts at the Center position. Any of the four would be great. They Have:

Diop
Illgauskus
Mihm
Doleac

They are all good players but u cant play em all. Illgauskus is my pick. When hes healthy this kid is nasty at 7'3". Mihm is my favorite but he had a good rookie season. He shows too much promise. I think the Cavs are screwed. Somebody has to go.

As you might understand I don't really follow the Cavs but which one is the one with the bad foot/leg again? I don't think Diop is a posibility though. To much promise to be fulfilled. Like the idea though of trading with Cleveland but what would they do with the exception?

I forgot that Clevland had so many centers, but I don't think they will be willing to part with any. There is always a chance that Illgauskus will be out the entire season, Mihm is decent but young, who knows how Diop will be, and he is hurt right now anyway. Doleac is not what we are looking for at center anyway. More of an outside shooter.

Doleac is not what we need...They only just drafted Diop, so they're not thinking about trading him just yet..."Z" is a big injury doubt, although when he is healthy, he is one of the best centers around...Mihm is probably the most feasible right now. Maybe we could develop him into a real star. We get our big guy, they get less of a logjam, plus the money and whatever else that gets thrown in. Sounds great to me!
We suck.

They want to develop Chris "the Secret of" Mihm at PF.

Right now it looks like the Knicks will either try to sign Mason straight up or trade with Milwaukee in order for them to get Mason. I would rather have Mason, but probably wouldn't mind getting either Scott Williams or Ervin Johnson because both would help. Also, Chris Gatling and Olden Polynice are still posibilities.
