One of Miller's hardest drills is this: A three-point make is +1 and a miss -1, and he has to get to 50. So he could make 49 in a row, miss one and he'd need two straight makes to finish. Miss five, make five and you're at zero.

I think a lot of players have that. Ray Allen does the same +1/-1 except not from the three point line.

In high school, JJ Redick's coach (who is a friend of mine) told me that JJ would shoot FTs after every practice & not leave the gym until he hit 100 in a row. Sometimes, he'd be there at 10pm.

Unfortunately, Balkman did not seem to have been one of these guys.

I will take a team of "gymrats" with average to above average athletic ability, over a team of stud athletes who only practice during the designated hours, almost every time.

I am simply unable to comprehend how certain players who have flaws in their games, but also have some talent/ability, don't go crazy in the offseason to improve the weaknesses they have.

David Lee improved his free throw shooting dramatically from his rookie year. Why can't he hit 15 ft jumpers from other areas? Besides getting a bit stronger, all Lee should have been doing during the offseason is shooting 13-20 foot jumpers, and learning how to hit a bank shot from certain angles on the floor.

Mardy- same thing- jumper, jumper, jumper, but from longer ranges than Lee.

Eddie Curry- hook, hook, hook, and jumpers from the same distances as Lee.

You really have too look at a guy like Balkman and wonder if he really gets the big picture, and that goes for other guys on this team. They get paid good money and have wonderful facilities available to them. Why do some guys NOT have the desire to improve?

So it goes.

I read that Eddy Curry has a similar drill, except it involves chili-dogs instead of baskets.

Yeah, and I hear that he has never missed his mouth yet.

Sometimes he misses on purpose just to prolong the drill.

This is why we suck

Crawford-hasn't improved one facet of his game in his entire tenure here, defense, shooting percentage, ball control, shot selection

Curry-still can't pass, doesn't have any range, doesn't play defense, continues to lower his shoulder on offense, still in the worst shape of any player in the entire league

Nate-still working on his half court shots, your an embarrassment if you are playing summer league your fourth year in the league, defense hasn't improved

Zach-continues to neglect his frame and is way to soft all over, still can't pass the ball or play defense

Jefferies-seriously you had a decent mid range in college what the **** happend, it's not that hard to shoot the ball

Marbury-has needed to lose bulk from his frame for a couple of years now to prevent injury and increase quickness, looks like he did it finaly but he will be cut.

James-apologies to eddy curry, human waste pin, no player does less to prepare himself

Players that have improved themselves this offseason

Q-dropped 15 pounds
Chandler-an array of new moves
Mardy-dropped weight a little better on the jump shot
Lee-i haven't seen it put he has added an improved compenant to his game each season

While those things haven't helped us over the years, I think the real problem has been committment to playing hard for 48 minutes. We've seen this team come back from large deficits for a few years now and then go back to playing soft and dumb ball to go on to lose the games anyway.

If these players had ever given 100% from start to finish in most of their games things would've been much different. FG% is one thing, but you can make up for that on the defensive end or on the boards. This team just hasn't been able to give that kind of sustained effort.

Coaching has also been a huge problem since LB and on thru Isiah. I don't think either guy did a great job. So now I want to see this team get rid of "Minimum Effort" guys and start bringing in and playing our own "Max Effort" guys. I know that Mike has no tolerance for guys that won't or can't play for him. We've seen him move guys out with a quickness in PHX, so I would expect that he'll want to do the same here.

That is not Mike Miller's drill. My coach used to let me do that. I would shoot till my arm hurt.

That's not a drill. That's just a shooting game. We used to play that as kids......but not to 50 though.....maybe 10.

Question does an assistant coach have to stand there the whole time till this guy finishes? Or does he have to retrieve every ball?

Usually if you were a terrible shooter like me. If you were a good shooter the coach trusted you to play the game fairly.

See, I disagree with you on that one. Crawford became a slightly better passer in Isiah's first year as coach, which also was Crawford's best season of his career numbers-wise, after the LB season which was inarguably Crawford's worst season since he was a rookie.

Overall, I think Crawford should become the Harlem Globetrotter's 10 million dollar player. He could put them back on the map.

The players we got over the years were lazy or undisciplined throughout their careers at other places. When we acquired them, all that happened over the last three years was very predictable. Predicting 23 wins was not easy and I don't think anyone here did it. But the yearly implosions were easy to predict. If you want a hard working team you have to get hard working players. Trying to beg guys to be hard worker players never works.
I just hope that people will like me

sounds like he's counting threes.
