Spoke with La Gazzetta dello Sport reporter Massimo Oriani, who covers basketball in Italy. Massimo says Danilo Gallinari is with the Italian national team right now in Bormio (northern Italy), where they are playing in a tournament with Poland and Israel.

Gallo, who missed all but one summer league game because of a sore back, isn't practicing yet but he is working out on his own. Italian team officials are expecting him to be ready to go in about 10 days.

"He says the back is getting slightly better but it's not fully healed yet," Oriani said.

Orinai expects Gallinari to be ready to play in the next tournament, which begins Aug. 11 in Calgari, Sardinia. After that, Italy plays Serbia on Aug. 20 in the first game of the 2009 Eurobasket qualifying tournament.

Oriani added that Gallinari has dealt with some injuries in his young career, but nothing chronic and never related to the back. He had a disloacted ankle once and also a microfracture in his leg before the 2007 Eurobasket tournament -- he was 18 years old -- and Oriani says Gallo's injury "probably cost our national team a shot at the Olympics."

not for nothing, but it's been 3 weeks or so after summer league and his back is still not fully healed? what happened to it?

Sounds like he might have got some orthopedic trauma service, perhaps on his tibia or some other bone.

I wonder if Jerryd Bayless ever had a history of injury as extensive as Gallo?

My guess is they mean small fracture. The term microfracture relates to surgical procedure. The one thing that I did take out of this is the back problem. OK you're 19-20 and you get a stinger in the back--it should be *gone* much sooner than that. Gallinari's has been lingering on for a month and still not healed. If I were the Knicks I would like to take a second look at what might be going on in there and keep Gallinari from participating in the Olympics until he is cleared medically.

Broke his wrist and missed most of his sophomore season.

That would be tough since he only played his freshmen year in college. He did sprain his knee this year and missed a bunch of games.

Anyone who followed college basketball this year knew Bayless missed a bunch of games because of a sprained knee. I didnt have to plagiarize NBA draft net and present it as material that I wrote as fact.

Who cares anyway I want to know what is up with Gallinaris back.

So me taking information from a website that I thought was true is me plagiarizing? I guess all those media courses didn't teach me dick.

I think youre right Andrew. If the poster put down his source in his intial post instead of making it sound like he was the source--it wouldve been easy to figure out. He crossed me up by saying that he hurt his wrist his sophmore year? but the only injury he had was a sprained knee at AZ.

Forgive me here dude, I posted something I read. Do you post a link to an article everytime you say something you read? Then I guess you plagiarize too. But either way, Gallinari's injury probably isn't anything serious and I think it was you who said it BRIGGS, I think they are referring to "microfracture" as a minor injury.

Damn, he has been out a month with a sore back.......... that has to raise a red flag some where.

It takes a while for a sore back to heal and there is no guarantee that it won't be chronic (see guys like Q-Fat). Not only does he have Larry Bird looking skills he has Larry Bird looking injuries.
