The Boston Red Sox on Thursday afternoon traded Manny Ramirez to the Los Angeles Dodgers, ending the slugger's eight-year run in Boston with a last-minute, three-way deal to beat baseball's non-waivers trade deadline. The trade is according to a high-ranking Red Sox official who was not authorized to speak about the deal because it was not final.
Ramirez and the Red Sox won World Series titles together in 2004 and 2007, but their longstanding differences recently became irreconcilable, prompting Boston to deal Ramirez in return for Pittsburgh Pirates left fielder Jason Bay.
The Pirates will receive relief pitcher Craig Hansen and outfielder Brandon Moss from Boston, in addition to third baseman Andy LaRoche and right-handed pitcher Bryan Morris from the Dodgers.
The deal capped a wild 36 hours in which trade talks with the Pirates, Marlins and Red Sox regarding Ramirez took several turns, as the Pirates all the while shopped Bay to the Tampa Bay Rays, who lead the Red Sox by three games in the AL East.
But in the end, it was the Dodgers, just a game out of first place in the NL West, who made off with Ramirez, who earlier this season hit his 500th career home run.
AAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!! Red Sox gave up not only Manny Ramirez, but also Craig Hansen & Brandon Moss for Jason Bay... WOOOOOOW... that's what you call being bent over a chair with a ballgag & having Ving Rhaymes & his hard, pipe-hittin' brothas goin to work on ya with a pair of pliers and a blow torch.
You like that, Theo boy? The Pirates & Dodgers just got medieval on your ass!!!
