Matt Barnes

the dude signed a 1 year contract last week to join the Suns... he's a guy i could have easily imagined playing a role on this team in Mike D's system & would have loved to trade Balkman for in a S&T... u don't think GS woulda taken that instead of losing him for nothing?

at least the guy has shown a little bit of something in this league, can shoot the rock & has already proven can be effective in an uptempo style game... if Bobby Jones is similar i'll take it, but if he ends up being a 12th man on the bench that will just waste away while scrubs like Jefferies are getting minutes then once again i'm going to blame some of the people on this forum... & that i cannot forgive.

Uh, Balkman was traded because he plays a position which is full. Barnes plays the same position as Balkman. I think you get the point.

no i don't... why are u bringing up those guys every time i make an observation about this deal... this is a simple point i'm making about the type of trade i think would have actually made sense... those guys are gonna see their minutes regardless.

I think what Martin is trying to get at is why would Barnes want to come to NY with the younger small forwards that NY has on its roster?

Barnes is pretty versatile so i can see him getting minutes even w/Gallo & Chandler embedded at the 3... & Mike D runs a similar style that he was so effective in playing while with GS... u don't think he'd be seeing plenty of minutes as Crawford's running mate if he'd decided to sign off on that type of deal? i do... that woulda made signings like Roberson & trades like this one where we got Bobby Jones completely unnecessary (well, even more unnecessary that is).

TMS: It's possible that D'Antoni is satisfied at what he has at the SF position and is trying to get rid of a glut. Next we will target the PG position, which will be easier since most of the guys have short contracts. Get the pattern?

Well, I think there's some logic to what TMS is saying, as I do think Barnes would've been an asset.

However, to be frank, we are talking about Renaldo Balkman. He was drafted 30 slots higher than any other team was reportedly planning, so it's not really that surprising that his value wound up being a second round pick, is it? We sold low, but we really didn't give up much either.

like i said, if Jones turns out to be similar to what Barnes is, i'll take it... i just don't wanna see this guy come in here & end up being just a warm body to keep the bench warm like Morris last season... i wanna see him have a role on this team, otherwise i see no point for making this deal... history suggests to me that he won't tho... they made this trade simply to open up a roster spot if u ask me, but hopefully i'm wrong... u already know what my preference woulda been to open up a roster spot.

chill w/the 'end of his career veteran' stuff bro... dude's 28.

Knicks would do this deal for the same reason they made this trade for Bobby Jones to begin with... & please don't use that 2nd rounder as any piece here, u can buy 2nd rounders for nothing every year of every draft... if we wanted to open up a roster spot that badly we coulda just simply bought out Turd, it's not like he's ever gonna be a tradeable commodity anyways so we're stuck paying his contract regardless.

For the same reason we added Ducheon - because he is better than what we have at the position - because both Chandler and Gallo are unproven commodities.
