If, as Knicks gm, you could do a sign and trade for either Luol Deng, Josh Smith or Emeka Okafor

and the price would be David Lee and Malik Rose, which one, if any, would you trade for. Also, assume that you had to either meet or come close to the contract demands of the player who we obtained for the sign and trade to work.
Luol Deng
Emeka Okafor
Josh Smith
I'd stand pat for cap reasons.
I'd stand pat for other reasons.

Okafor would be the best for their needs.

Stone hands Oakfur doesn't fit the needs of our new coach. It's got to be Josh Smith then Luol Deng.

Josh Smith is the best of the three by far. Geat shot blocking and defence. Offence...runs the floor as good as any PF in the league. Deng would be second but I would expect you would need to trade Chandler instead of Lee so Chicago could fill their SF hole if Deng is traded.

I voted for Josh Smith. Smith is the best for the new system and the better overall player.

My man Eny. Whats good dude?

Okafor would be the perfect Knick. Aside from baskeball ability, he's got a solid reputation around the league, he's a very smart person and he's got a TON of experience of playing at the Garden in high-profile and high-intensity games and he's only 25 years old.

Now basketball ability. Emeka will never ruffle feathers, he is the epitome of a team-player, he is a very good defensive big man, he blocks shots, rebounds, he plays very good man-man defense. His offense is still evolving, but he's at the point where he shoots a very good percentage and he's got some moves with this back to basket that he can goto. He also doesn't need the ball to be effective offensively, which is great news for MikeD's offense.

I would sign him to a reasonable contract, that would be somewhere around 12-13 million a year at the absolute max. I think 10 million a year for Emeka would be best, but his value is set by other players and right now Emeka can ask for more. He's a very effective player and the kind of player as Knick fans we should be targeting.

I went for Deng. I like the fact that they all play d, though I have to admit that Smith and Okafor give us a shot blocking factor which we lack. What I like about Deng over the others is that he's more versatile offensively. Last season, he started hitting the three, which Smith can't do. Okafor takes the same space as Curry and Zach. It's pretty crowded there already.

You're right but Smith is a more explosive scorer and perfect for uptempo

I understand the man to man stuff--of course you dont want to let your man in for uncontested layups
but at Uconn they track defensive numbers by blocks steals defelections and alterations. His block/steal number of 4.3 is very high--high enough to categorize him as a disruptive defender.

Maybe I wasn't being realistic in setting Lee and Malik as the price, but I thought if the teams aren't signing them because of the price tag, they aren't going to get full value in a sign and trade. I'm curious to see how that actually pans out.

Emeka first. Smith second. I don't see Smith as a PF. I see him as a SF. We have a lot of them. Chandler could be a Smith-lite. We have no one that comes close to what Emeka would bring us.

Deng all day long. He is the best of the lot. His offense is refined and Josh Smith can only dream about the offensive skills that Deng has. Deng play pretty good defense also with this long arms.
