Wouldn't it be easier to simply cut Balkman ( owed 1.3 mil ), Collins ( owed 1 mil ) Rose ( owed 7.6 mil ) and Bif Snacks ( owed 13 mil or less pending a buyout ). That gets us down to 13 guaranteed contracts. Keep Marbury until the trade deadline so we can see if Do Do needs to be flushed down the toilet or a keeper in MikeD's system. If he is ok then Marbs contract is a good chip in feb. Don't forget that Crawford has an opt out clause next year. If he has a great season under MikeD, then expect him to want to capitalize and we must decide to keep or cut ! Now your looking at 11 contracts.

No on Balk (who has ability).

No on Rose (who has a valuable expiring contract).

Yes on Snacks.

I would say no on Marbury (again, I'd have him stay home a la what the Bulls did with Tim Thomas & see what presents itself at the deadline).

Collins may be a small trade chip (as I mentioned in the Vujanic/Biedrins thread).

I'd cut Big Snacks before lunch today (which of course would be disappointing in many ways for him).
And I look to make trades as well (Rose, Collins, Balk, ZBo if the gods shine down upon us).
And I let training camp sort out things as well.

Big Snacks has 0 value--none. I would have to think that either Collins or Balkman could bring back a second rounder or maybe another young player who hasnt worked out well in another situation. Also they are small contracts which are easier to do things with.

Big Snacks is the epitome of this franchise the last 7 years--a big joke---a waste of time and money--an embarassment to NY and its fans. What I don't get is people wanting to cut Marbury---who can actually play better than most of this roster when he's healthy--if not all[although he seems to have tunred into a pshyco] Big Snacks on the other hand cant play wont play never could play--we have to face it--that was maybe the worst signing we had--we received zero value for 40mm$ doubled with the tax--now we can say that about several moves but this fat arse should be gone.

Big Snacks is a joke & shoulda been gone a long time ago... Marbury's contract is not a trade commodity, so unless ur gonna play him he's of no use to this franchise... no team is gonna trade for Marbury when they know the Knicks are likely to buy him out & they can just sign him to a veteran's minimum deal, unless they're dumping some horrible contracts back at us.

so the question comes down to whether or not Mike D plans on using Marbury as part of his offense next season... doesn't seem to me like Marbury's in the plans when Duhon was just brought in under the promise that he'd be given the starting PG role... that makes Marbury the odd man out & it's only gonna be a matter of time before he gets bought out.
