The New York Knickerbockers President of Basketball Operations Donnie Walsh announced today that free agent guard Anthony Roberson has been signed to a contract. As per club policy, terms of the deal will not be disclosed.

Roberson, 6-2, 195-pounds, has career averages of 4.1 points and 8.8 minutes in 36 career games with Memphis and Golden State. The 25-year-old Saginaw, MI-native averaged 2.2 points in 5.5 minutes per game with Memphis in 2005-06 before tallying 5.6 points in 11.4 minutes per game with Golden State the following season. Roberson spent last season playing overseas in Turkey and Israel.

It's a safe move. A good contract move and probably signals the end of suckbury! Yippeeeeeee!!
I'll never trust this' team again.

Roberson is far from my ideal player, but it's not a bad signing. If he can shoot like he was in the first couple games and practices, he'll be a great asset off the bench. If he bombs, it's a minimum contract and you don't get burned that bad.

Let's see what he can do in preseason. He may not even make the final cut.

He's not here for idea team either. He's here for one purpose. Donnie Walsh is committed to protecting the cap. Two safe, cheap contracts (and not like we have money to burn right now) in a row and it's pretty obvious to me. If Duhon and Roberson can contribute then that would help the record. Otherwise, they are simply contracts designed to prepare for major cap space in up to two to three years.
I'll never trust this' team again.

If that's the case, then why even sign him to begin with??

They could stick me on the roster and it would help the record. How could it get worse?

We'll see. From what I've been able to see about this guy and read about him, I'm not impressed.

Source?

No source but I fiugure he will be the odd man out. D'Antoni needs shooters. Unfortunately this is not a skill Mardy excels at

Thank god the Knicks signed Roberson. I was really starting to worry they wouldn't be able to get him.

Well, it didn't appear to be a skill set that Roberson excels at either during Summer League with a man in his face. Thank goodness for him that the competition will only get easier in the NBA.

Ha, he only cost us 700 thou. Very cheap. But strictly a contract move.

Actually I think your right. Isn't it 17 on the roster right now? That means a few buyouts. jerome or stephanie. It would be a lot cheaper to buy out jerome along with Malik. that's about 12 mil loss vs. stepahnies 21 million, making the roster 15 exactly.

It is 16 because Fred Jones and Randolph are no longer on the team. There are only three candidates, Mardy, Marbury, and JJ1. JJ1 is the least useful but since we have no other seven footers on the team, he might stick.

The only problem with that is 'if he starts doing what isiah did (costing dolan millions) and if some of his moves don't work out, it could very well come back to haunt him later, like it did isiah'.

So Donnie would be smart to make the lesser evil at this point, because getting rid of suckbury isn't going to get us much, that we aren't going to get after next season anyway. Right?
