3 years 20mm tax free euro---essentially it's an unbeatable offer considering the value of the american dollar. I can see a lot more of this--unfortunately I knew this was coming. This is very troubling

Soccer just had a head start on the NBA, but the NBA is an international game. I could definitely see the leagues out there start poaching players. We already have seen the game being equalized in the international tournaments. Childress could fit very well within the European concept even though he's not a huge scorer.

I agree. Childress it the multifaceted type of player that flourishes over there.

greece has stepped up their baseketball program this summer.

one greek team offered anthony parker 3 years $24 mil (ap was 2 time euroleague mvp so his name has some juice over there). and they also extended a big offer to delfino, but he ended up signing a 3 year deal with a russian team. primoz brezec just signed a bigger deal with an italian team as well.

there is money to be had there for the average nba player.

I think if the NBA keeps losing players like this they will seriously have to re-examine the salary cap structure.

I think we are going to start seeing another batch of overpaid role players as teams try to prevent them from going to Europe
I just hope that people will like me

nba has to completely re-do it's salary structure and trading guidelines altogether. it's damn near impossible for teams to make moves. they need a hard cap but that will result in another strike.

basketball in greece is HUGE business - has been for past 10 years. they overpay for talent b/c it brings back triple revenue in return - the country is fanatical for it lately and its positive affects on their economy, market appeal to young kids who want more scoring and highlights that the traditional soccer provides, sponsorship and $$$$'s in tv and promotional deals. in a country with an economy that is one the the worst in europe (thank the euro for revitalizing greece's economy as they were the 2nd poorest country in eurpoe before everyone went euro over there), bball popularity is saving their sports market. and, b/c poaching talent from the nba can only inject more $$$ into the economy, you'll see more of it happen in the near future.

I'll play devil's advocate: These few players are all ones that teams can afford to lose. I think it's gotta be more than 2 or 3 role players for the league to care. They're still bring in far more Euros than the # of good American players they're losing to Europe.

This is all about the new world order, they want everyone to be equal in the game of basketball when it comes to salaries eventually.

The marginal veteran NBA players might find it profitable to go over seas. Just ask highschooler brandon Jennings how lucrative it is playing in europe.

JAMES DOLAN on Isiah : He's a good friend of mine and of the organization and I will continue to solicit his views. He will always have strong ties to me and the team.

Ricky Davis has an offer from Olympiakos and has offered Ricky Davis $7 Million which would make him the most expensive player in Europe.

Most of the players leaving for Euro teams are role players who are being over paid. I think this will keep more Euro stars at home as opposed to coming over seas where they will make less money. I wonder what will happen with Gallo when his rookie contract is up? I'm sure, if he plays well, Italy will offer him a contract that could be worth 9 million american dollars which I'm not sure he'll be woth that. I guess well see.

NBA might not be losing stars, but if they being to lose a lot of middle tier players the quality of play will deteriorate greatly.

The weak dollar is partly responsible for this problem.

I'm not sure these guys are even middle tier and it definitely isn't a lot of players.

Its the tip of the iceberg.....2010 is coming. What if Lebron or one of the other dudes jump out there?

Marbs said he would go to italy to play.....what if he does? The NBA plantation is going down......but this was the dream of Stern right? Global game?

I was thinking the same thing in the begining. But that is probably what they could afford right now at this point. If they make the money they think they can earn off these players then that will only lead them to better players as there money & popularity grows.

If Jennings does well, and Europe starts taking the top highschool talent for a yr or 2. Along with stealing more and more talented players from the NBA. Imagine 10-15 yrs down the road.
