J.R. Smith Receiving Little Attention

Jul 19, 2008 8:07 PM EST

Nuggets restricted free agent J.R. Smith hasn't gotten much attention this month, according to The Rocky Mountain News.

"I haven't heard from anybody," Smith said Friday.

Smith said he hasn't gotten an offer from the Nuggets, other than the option to return next season for the $3.04 million qualifying offer.

"I'm not sure yet. I'd have to go over that with my people," said Smith, who said he plans to talk to his representatives "at the end of the month."

His agent should tell him to keep his mouth shut

This is not surprising. All this guy is is Jamal Crawford without the cross over.
Thank you, Rick Brunson.

I agree. But I wouldn't mind going past the 2 year mark if we sign this kid to the LLE. 3 yr/10 mil.

Probably he would not, but unlike Duhon, this guy really deserves that kind of money, and, first of all, in my opinion, if given the minutes he can be a nice starting SG for a lot of years, and thats more important than the "supposed" 2010 plan.

Having missed out on C.J. Miles, could Sam Presti and Oklahoma City turn their sights to resitrcted Nugget J.R. Smith for help at shooting guard?

According to The Oklahoman columnist Darnell Mayberry, Oklahoma City was also interested in Tony Allen before Allen re-signed with Boston.

The Nuggets have said they will match any team's offer for Smith, but with the team already in the luxury tax they may be tempted to let Smith walk. Presti could employ a similar strategy as he did with Miles by setting the bar high and daring Denver to match.

Smith reportedly turned down a three-year, $10 million extension from Denver last fall, and because Memphis is the only other team with significant cap space the Nuggets have leverage to not offer much more.

ok, denver said they would match any deal. knicks should've offered the MLE to jr smith and dared denver to match. if they did, that's ok, duhon still would've been around 7 days later.

And the Knicks could jus make another deal like sign roberson and trade Balkman for green and jones........grrrr!

I must admitt......I'm totally annoyed with Donnie Walsh's handling of the team so far.

Forget about MLE for JR. Wouldn't and couldn't have happened. But if Denver is only offering him $10 million for 3 yrs - that is low. JR should get more.

Lets do a sign and trade as VDesai did in other thread. Balkman and Rose for JR. And add Roberson if they want or subtract Rose if they don't want his expiring contract.

Shooting and scoring is at a premium in this league and it says a lot that no one has offered the guy 5 million a year. You stay away from ghetto trash like this guy. He thinks he is the ****, bitches, starts problems with teammates and would have got paid already if he hasn't caused problems every where he goes, plain and simple we have tried players like this and they always backfire.

Duhon plays defense and can at least run an offense. We have Nate already who does many of the same things and will have a much better year stroaking it in Mikes offense

Not gonna get him for the Mid, so its not like we screwed up. is restricted so he is boxed out. if he wants to wait a year and get a qualifying offer and play with it, then is value will rise particually if he behaves. This guy is talented as hell but he got that dumb Marbury kind of arrogance that can really screw up things.

Good talent but questionable investment.
