Clippers Sign Azubuike To Offer Sheet

The Los Angeles Clippers today announced that the team has signed restricted free agent guard Kelenna Azubuike to an offer sheet to a multi-year agreement. Azubuike is currently a restricted free agent who has played the last two seasons with the Golden State Warriors.

Under the rules of the NBA’s Collective Bargaining Agreement, once a restricted free agent is signed to an offer sheet, his current team has seven days to match the offer once it receives a copy of the original offer sheet. In this case, the proper documentation has been forwarded today via overnight carrier to the Warriors, and is scheduled to be received on Friday, July 18.

In the last two seasons with the Warriors, the 24-year old Azubuike averaged 8.1 points, 3.4 rebounds and 0.8 assists in 122 games. The former University of Kentucky standout appeared in 81 contests last season for Golden State.

Azubuike, 24, agreed to a three-year deal, with his option for the third season. The deal is for $9.3 million, with his salary being $2.9 million, $3.1 million and $3.3 million.

I liked what I saw from this guy in his limited action. Doesn't seem like the Warriors are planning on matching.
