The thing I like is that he's a very skilled player and he's not even fully matured yet. Imagine him a couple of years down the line with some muscle and more confidence at this NBA level. I just think he was a very good pick at #6, especially for this team. My biggest reason is that he's a high BB IQ player and we have lacked that over the years. He's one of those guys that gets it. He's team oriented and the more guys we add like him the better we'll be.
The only thing detractors have against the guy is that he's not Josh Smith athletically. However they're wrong about his speed, cuz he's quick and moves fluidly. He has a nice handle and especially since we're talking about a guy that's 6-10. You could clearly see on tape that he can move very fast up court with the ball and change direction at will. He's got his head up and can make the pass. I mean really what is there to complain about? |

That's two big men on the Knicks that have a better handle than Mardy Collins. Gallinari and Jerome James that is. lol
Gallinari needs to work on his strength and conditioning, rebounding, shooting the 3, and postup game. Other than that I think he has a good offensive game. [Edited by - BigC on 07-17-2008 4:59 PM] BigC's Knick blogs and Knicks

His 3 pt shooting will be just be fine- it is not something you should worry about.
He does have a postup game from what I saw in all those YouTube clips, but it is not as developed as his jumper and driving. Don't know if he has had a lot of experience in posting up against big guys, because a lot of European teams seem to have guarded him with shooting guards, but lets face it- with the way he can handle the ball, he will be putting up shots off the dribble and driving on a lot of the bigger men who cover him, and only posting against the little guys. Yup- he needs to get stronger, but some of that is simply a lack of physical maturity at this point. If he was coming into the league at 22 or 23 (like Bird did), his strength would not be as much of an issue. If he does eventually become a PF, his rebounding, especially on the defensive end, may be an issue. Wonder if his rebounding will ever get above 8 RPG? As he gets stronger, I assume he will become a better defensive rebounder. He can't be pushed around if he has established block-out positioning, though, which I recall happening the other day. The injury, however slight, was a bummer. [Edited by - Paladin55 on 07-17-2008 5:28 PM] No man is happy without a delusion of some kind. Delusions are as necessary to our happiness as realities- C.N. His leg strength isn't what it should be, but I saw him at least trying to block out his man and it seemed as tho he was unable to hold his position. He would get bumped and he'd move forward from his original spot. I fully expect for him to workout on leg strength and improve his rebounding.
As was mentioned much of this is his youth and build. Some guys are just naturally strong and thick. He's more agile, but at least he's not a stick figure. He's already got a decent base level of physical strength. He doesn't have to be hercules. Camby and Chandler are big who aren't very strong, but they're strong enough to get the job done. |

Posted by Paladin55: I still think the he might have to work on hit 3 because it is an adjustment. The NBA range is further out plus a man will be in his face. Many people can hit the 3 in college but can't in the NBA. Not saying he will have big problems but it is something you have to work on. Kenny Anderson use to be mr 3 pointer then he came to the NBA and could not adjust. The use to call him and Dennis Scott the 3 triple threat. As far as his postup moves, he has to add strength in order to be successful unless players will push him out of the box. The powerforward position is one of the most stacked position in the game. It's not easy to post up players. BigC's Knick blogs and Knicks

I'm not really worried about Gallo's 3pt shooting. To be honest he's got such an easy release that it's not like he has trouble with shooting from range. He just needs to gain strength in his base and spend time shooting from that distance. He'll be fine.
Post up wise he's also just gotta hit the weight room doing squats. I think our training regimens are better here. Not too many Euros come over here looking diesel. |

Posted by nixluva:Leg working can help him in the posting up and rebounding game. If his legs are weak there is no way he will be able to post up. He could have an upper body like the Incredible Hulk but if his legs are weak he will get thrown all over the place. BigC's Knick blogs and Knicks

He could have an upper body like the Incredible Hulk but if his legs are weak he will get thrown all over the place. That was one of Frye's problems. NO GLUTS. His hips just didn't have the natural strength to hold position. He also didn't get low enough, but really he was just genetically weak in that area. Ewing used to kill me with that too. He of course was stronger than Frye, but he often would get pushed and would bend way over when the defender pushed. Gallo may not ever get to be a dominant post player, but he can improve enough to be effective. At least he's shown more ability in that regard than Frye did. Either way his bread and butter will likely be facing up. He can start in the post and then turn and face his defender and that's where his full arsenal can be on display. The step back, drive and pull up, the pass etc. His skill level is high. |

He's still developing physically. I'll never trust this' team again.

Posted by Elite: not too impressed by that crossover... a good defender woulda stolen that easy & had an easy fastbreak dunk the other way... look how far he put the ball ahead of him... i like Gallo & i think he's gonna be a solid player for us but i hope he's got a better crossover than that. I really don't think we should judge him so early. He's only played one summer league game for us and he's still developing. I don't expect him to have the greatest crossover off the bat. And yes, a good defender would have stole that one. A good defender would/could do it to just about anyone in the NBA.
This video(s) obviously shows that the kid has some good ball handling skills. And at 6'-10"? I'm impressed so far. I'll never trust this' team again.

I don't want to get too amped up about Gallo yet, since I've only seen him in SL, although so far I like what I see.
I like the fact that he's fearless, I like the fact that he's got a good handle, I like the fact that he's a righty who likes to go left, I like the fact he's got a good motor and I like the fact that he's got a PURE jumpshot. I like what I see so far, but that was just one measly SL game, I wanna see it a real game. "OMG - did we just go on a two-trade-wining-streak?" -SupremeCommander
