Report: Pistons willing to part with Billups in trade for Warriors' Andris Biedrins
The Pistons are interested in acquiring Golden State center Andris Biedrins and they would offer Chauncey Billups in the deal, the Oakland Tribune reported.
Columnist Carl Steward writes: "The buzz in Detroit is that the Warriors and Pistons have been talking about a deal involving point guard Chauncey Billups. The Pistons want Andris Biedrins, the Warriors are offering up Al Harrington. Harrington by all means. But Biedrins? No way.
"Hard to see Billups in a running style, though, and he will be 32 in September. That said, he would be much preferable to (Monta) Ellis at the point, and a significant recoup, at least temporarily, for the loss of (Baron) Davis.
Biedrins and Ellis are restricted free agents, and the Warriors had hoped to re-sign them. But the Warriors have appeared reluctant to include Biedrins in a sign-and-trade.
The 6-11 Biedrins was the No. 11 overall pick in 2004. The 22-year-old started 59 of 76 games last season, averaging 10.5 points, 9.8 rebounds and 1.24 blocks, shooting 62.6 percent from the floor.
The Warriors might be willing to make a trade once their deal for Ronny Turiaf has been completed. Golden State made a four-year, $17 million offer to the restricted free agent Turiaf of the Los Angeles Lakers. The Lakers have until Thursday to match the offer or they will lose Turiaf, a 6-foot-10 forward who averaged 6.6 points and 3.9 rebounds per game last season.
