Team president Larry Bird said he isn't finished remaking the roster, however.

Bird said he hopes to trade for or sign a power forward and is confident he can trade point guard Jamaal Tinsley.

"As we made deals, we knew we were probably going to have an area that we needed to still address, and right now it's a power forward that can score down low," Bird said after Roy Hibbert and Brandon Rush -- two of the seven players the team acquired through trade -- were introduced.

Now, for the ultimate you take my crap, I take your sh!t trade:

New York Knicks

Incoming Players
Travis Diener
Salary: $1,620,000 Years Remaining: 1

Jamaal Tinsley
Salary: $6,750,000 Years Remaining: 3

Troy Murphy
Salary: $10,126,984 Years Remaining: 3

Outgoing Players: Zach Randolph, Jared Jeffries, Mardy CollinsIndiana Pacers

Incoming Players
Zach Randolph
Salary: $14,666,667 Years Remaining: 3

Jared Jeffries
Salary: $6,049,400 Years Remaining: 3

Mardy Collins
Salary: $1,034,760 Years Remaining: 1

Outgoing Players: Travis Diener, Jamaal Tinsley, Troy Murphy

Why for Knicks: the Knicks dump malcontent ZBo, Jefferies who has no place here & Collins who may not be long for the league. They get Tinsley, who comes home. Yes, he's a jerk, but he can possibly be revived under Dantoni. Excellent assist man. Troy Murphy has more range than ZBo & I can see him hitting 3's in transition, plus playing some C whereas ZBo can't do that. We'd cut Diener.

C: Curry/Murphy
PF: Lee/Gallinari/Murphy/Malik Rose
SF: Chandler/Q/Balk
SG: Crawford/Nate & possibly Delonte Holland
PG: Duhon/Tinsley/Roberson

There's no impact on the cap. But the smaller deals of Tinsley & Murphy (relative to Zach) might be less of a challenge to unload down the road.

Actually, it does shave 3.8mm off the salary expense in Year 3.

Only hope is to shop Zach to the Atlanta Hawks if Josh Smith leaves

We are not wprried about yr 3. Lebron does not want to play with Tinsley and Murphy. We are worried about year 2, which is year 2010. Anything over is not a trade.

Zach and Nate

Why worse?

-Dumping ZNo, a player who has no use on this team basketball wise (because he's purely a half court player) & only negativity to offer in terms of intangibles, is a plus.
-Neither Murphy or ZBo defend well, so that's a wash.
-We do get versatility at C with Murph, plus he shoots the 3 ball which is excellent for spacing & takes away the twin post player dynamic that Isiah saddled us with.
-We add a savvy PG & have him split the job w/ Duhon.
-JJ-Lips & Mardy are inconsequential.

From today's NY Post:

LAS VEGAS - The KnicksNew York Knicks have agreed in principle on a two-year contract to sign free-agent guard Anthony Roberson, with the deal likely to expediate the departure of Stephon MarburyStephon Marbury , The Post has learned.

Knicks president Donnie Walsh appeared to be waiting to add another backcourt player before he made a move with Marbury. And now he feels he has it in Roberson, a 6-2 combo guard who is playing for the Knicks summer-league team here and excelled in his debut, scoring 22 points, including three 3-pointers.

Roberson played for Memphis and Golden State before last season when he competed for teams in Jerusalem and Istanbul.

The signing will give the Knicks 16 players with guaranteed contracts - one over the limit. The Knicks also have considered waiving center Jerome JamesJerome James , who played five minutes last season and still has knee pain.

Walsh is still looking for point-guard help through a trade.

Mardy has shown inprovement. Zach is a 20/10 guy that might not be able to work in this system but is WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY better than bum ass Troy Muphy. Jared Jeffries is a waste, but I rather keep him than to take on Jamal Tinsley aka Jamal always injured. I'm not even going to talk about Diener. It makes no sense to trade ourassets that are more valuable for less. Ask the Clippers would they trade for Troy Murphy for a second rounder.

Walsh used to work for the Pacers. He knows better than any one how bad these players are. I guarantee you Tinsley will never be a Knick and everyone on UK will be happy bc of that

Mardy has progressed in what way? He still is a poor athlete, still can't shoot, still not a playmaker for others.

The only way I trade Zach right now is if we take back little in salary and roster space and get ourselves a 2010 pick...

We have nothing to gain by trading him now... his value is low and he is still a young player...
it is more advantageous to let him play under coach D, bolster his value and trade him before the deadline or next year...

I am not worried about Lee getting minutes as he will play a lot of center in the new coach's system.
Lee and Z can coexist on the court, as can Lee and Curry... the problem is always going to be pairing Zach and Curry...

If I'm Donnie, I hold pat and wait for the market to come to me...

That's what people were saying about the potential Zach + #6 to Philly for Evans and crap.

well is drying up. need to find another former zach coach or another team that loses a big time PF for nothing.

again, if this has legs and the knicks said no, then this non-trade could be the reason david lee won't finish his career as a knick.

he could even move zach in the summer of 2010 like denver did with camby if the opportunity presents itself. but in the meantime, hope d'antoni is a miracle worker to get zach + curry to work this season.

That's fine. I don't want Zach here at all, but I also realize that he can be here UNTIL 2010. As Zach's contract becomes shorter, his value won't go down.
