there is slim pickings in terms of FA available. It looks more and more like Charlie Ward will be paid for his last year of his contract and that we will have the same PG tadem with a little FW sprinkled in.

that being said I think it would be wise to pick up Jumaine Jones or Dion Glover on the cheap and sign Lampe to a 4 year contract.

We need a physical athletic wing who can take the ball to the basket rebound and play D. Jones is 6-8 225 and Glover is 6-5 220--both are athletes and 24 years old. I believe Jones would fill the billa little better because of his extra 3 inches.

I would also like to see if we can either trade Harrington and Houston's second round pick for Chris Mihm or just trade Harrington off to Utah[who doesnt have a PF] for a 2004 second round pick. Sincethey are under the cap-we dont need to take anyone else back.

If we get Mihm, we wont need Ndiaye as the 3rd C but if we don't Ndiaye may end upmaking the team as C-3.

So Im looking at this
Sign Lampe to a 4 year 5mm$ contract with a team option on year 5
Sign Jones to a 3 year 4.5mm$ contract

Either trade Harrington and second round pick for Mihm
or trade Harrington to Utah for a 2004 2nd round pick

Chris Mihm is pure garbage!!! Why in the hell would we take him??? He lacks lateral mobility, agressiveness and never lived up to expectations. As Iceman said "we got enough white centers". As for Lampe, C'mon dude, you should know this!! You can't sign Lampe for 4yrs worth 5mill, he's a 2nd round pick which restricts him from getting paid near a million during the life of the contract. That would've been a different story if he were a 1st rounder..

We don't need Mihm, but Scott LayDown and Done Chaney will prop him up just like they did Keith Van Hype.

"Mihm brings height and rebounding... "

You guys that took the bait on Keith Van Hype will do the same damn thing about Mihm, no doubt.

Our team is looking softer by the day. Same goes for the fans- Chris Mihm??? This is making me sick to my stomach.
Another season, and more adversity to persevere through. We will get the job done, even BETTER than last year. GO KNICKS!

Actually the main theme of the thread was primarily about picking up an athletic wing player for defense and a third center. Unfortunately Jumaine jones was picked up by the Celtics but Glover is still available--the problem is we have 15 roster spots full

i then went on to say that we should TRADE Harrington as a first option to Utah[to open up that spot] who donot have any PF and we have 7 for a 2004 2nd round pick OR if that didnt work, trade him to Clev+ houstons 2nd round pick for Mihm. I dont care if he's white black chinese green blue etc.. he's 7-0 265 just turned 24 and showed very nice promise towards the end of last season. Chris Mihm is a pure C--we dont need Harrington at all. Mihm still has nice upside -more than doleac IMHO. As you can see there is only slim pickings for big men and Mihm doesnt carry a big long contract. Cleveland could use a back up PF so it's a pretty nice match. We are not going to get Kareem Abdul Jabbar even at 50 years old for Harrington.

Lampe can be signed to any length of the MLE that suits the Knicks-probably in the 4-5 year range. Sometimes people open their mouth without having reserched the subject they talk about. My uncle calls it orgasming of the mouth. Yes he can be signed to any amount they want within the MLE.

Chris Mihm has been in this league for 3 years. Brad Miller had very similar numbers to Mihm his first three years by the way. All of a sudden Othella Harrington is a valuable commodity? i think picking up Mihm for Harrington would be a nice small move.

Slightly off topic but can somebody explain to me why we have to use the mid-level exception on Lampe but we can sign Sweetney to a rookie contract? Are there different rules for European players as it pertains to Collective Bargaining Agreement?

First-rounders get guaranteed contracts according to how high they are picked in the draft. Lampe will actually get some of the MLE in order to buy out Real Madrid's contract.

YES!!!! YES!!!! THANK YOU!!! ANOTHER VOICE OF REASON!!! The Jazz need a bonafide scorer. They could use Houston and he would bring recognition to their team.

Houston and Kirelenko would be a nice one-two punch.

And, IT WILL GET OUR LEAST FAVORITE KNICK AND HIS RIDICULOUS CONTRACT OFF THE BOOKS!! I WISH THAT THIS WOULD HAPPEN! But alas, Layden is too dumb to GIVE anyone to Utah, he is intent on TAKING ppl from Utah.....

actually 2nd round picks are not due guaranteed contracts but if a team likes a player enough they can offer him part of the MLE, they are not bound by the rookie agreements that 1st rounders get. for instance Postell got a 1 year 1 mil deal when he was with the knicks...

Why would Utah take his "ridiculous contract"? They are in a rebuilding mode. They don't need a scorer that bad, tp take on Hosuton's contract. In two years Kobe, Keyon Martin, and Shariff will all be free agents, plus a buunch of other quality guys. They will sign one of them for 15-16 mil per. Allan Houston type money. So why would they sing Allan who's about half as good as these guys.
Right now we should lock up a physical athletic wing player and Lampe under the MLE
