Kevin McHale spent three days with Gallinari in Italy last season. Friday was the Wolves' chance to see a European prospect who not that long ago was a 6-5 point guard and now, according to Wolves General Manager Jim Stack, is a legitimate 6-10 forward.

"He's tall, I did not realize how tall he is," Stack said when asked about first impressions. "McHale stood with him and had him just by a hair. He's unique in that he has guard skills at that height. The challenge for him is if he can adapt to the speed of the NBA game and who he can guard defensively in our league."

OK....I'm impressed with the YouTube higlights. He dribbles the ball like a guard, runs the court, drives to the basket like a guard. Then he switches hands when laying the ball up with a defender on him. Just like Bird would do.

Here is the video purple012870 linked to, embedded. Some of the same stuff I've seen, some new, but more condensed. It is a good highlight reel:

Either Gallinari is really good or the defense in Italy really sucks.

Bingo. The guy looks more like Keith Van Horn to me actually.

I would let Gallinari play some PG at times during the game. I wouldnt say this guy is a 4 I would say play multiple positions and utilyze all skills Gallinari is a hope--he gives hope. He has moxy size and skills--now will they translate to the NBA--tht is the 100$ question. He has a chance to be really good or Boston Nachbar.--so let the dice roll

Larry Bird? Larry played defense as well as passed well. The kid from what I was told can ball.

Here is the Larry Bird mix I made

If Gillinari can play with half the skills the Knicks will be straight.

Nice job. Bird and Magic were the stars of their era - two of the best players ever and neither was especially athletic.

Thanks.

There won't ever be anyone like Bird.

I remember Bird playing one game where he dropped 27 points with his left hand. The thing that was funny is the game before that he said he was shoot only with his left.

Judging by Gallo's moves I've seen he watched at lot of MJ videos, saw the hand switch in his youtube mix

Gallo has talent and will be a good player, but nothing like Bird.

That's the thing. He use to talk trash and back it up. I remember he would tell players, "Too late" and then shoot a three in their faces. Or tell coaches, "You better call a double team because I am going to take over."

Bird was one of the greatest ever. Gallinari is not as good as Bird. But......at 19 years old was Bird as good as Gallinari is now at 19??? Probably not.

I don't think Gallinari will be as good as Bird was. But I think Gallinari has a tremendous amount of potential and a BIG upside.

P.S> Thanks for the clips of Bird. Wonderful to watch a master play basketball.

I'm as big of a Gallo fan as there is, but to even put him in the same breathe as Larry Bird is just absurd.

I hate to show my age but Bird's best year at IU state was his first year. Larry Bird wouldve been a star NBA basketball player at 16-17 never mind a 14-3 42% euroleague player. The numbers he used to put up in college just arent done anymore. As good as Beasley was this year with off the charts PER Bird was way better than him as a freshmen. If Bird played in the Euro League at age 19 going on 20 he would average 25-12-5/6 50+% and even the staunchest Euro League advocate cant disagree with that one.

The karma you can look at they are the same size they have pretty much the same legs[maybe gallinaris are slightly livelier they were both pick 6 in the draft they both will play point forward:)]
