Whether Marbury will be traded, bought out of his contract or simply waived is yet to be determined. But people with close ties to Donnie Walsh, the team president, and Coach Mike D’Antoni consider Marbury’s departure a near certainty.

Those briefed on the matter spoke anonymously because the discussions were private, and because the subject has apparently not been broached with Marbury.

But the Knicks’ intentions were evident in their recruiting of Duhon. As part of his sales pitch, Walsh all but offered him the job as starting point guard.
some Knick fans accept mediocrity as excellence .... I don't!

Good riddance! I bet just getting this guy away from our team will add 5-10 wins alone. What a disgrace for this guy to be from NYC

This guy is the shining example of Isiah's terrible tenure.

Yes, we have seen year after year than once Marbury gets injured we won many more games...
Im not defending him! But we wont win more games with Duhon as our starting PG. In fact, many people see this as a good move because we will get a better draft position for next year!

I agree he should never wear a Knick jersey again. BUT >>Why buy him out now? Why not pull a "Tim Thomas/Bulls" move & tell him to stay home until a) his contract expires b) we move towards the trade deadline & a trade opportunity presents itself. Buying him out now is being short-sighted.

nah, nah, marbury will be the starter. Just read Marc Berman's un-biased piece:

... so funny

Mere speculation here. There's nothing conclusive in this article just opinion.

While I believe the Marbury situation will be settled with a great liklihood that he is bought out I'll wait for actual confirmation of such.

There's only two ways to handle Marbury.

1) Buy him out.

or

2) Sit down with him, tell him you know he's been mis-used for several seasons, tell him you want the Starbury that was originally brought here and operated freely under Lenny to carry the carcass of Layden's team to the playoffs, give him the ball, and let him have at it.

We know there is no middle ground with Steph. If you want to win the most you can with him on the team you let him dominate the team. Or, you buy him out.

Option 2 would work for those who think his expiring should be held onto until the last possible minute. You can't just send him home for a year and you can't keep him in a reduced role so you'd have to give him back full control of the team.

Option 2 would also guaranteed another draft pick around 8th or so given we'd win just enough with him going off so maybe it's just not worth it as it'd ruin any chance at an 09 draft that could give us a decent player.

Personally I'd like to see Marbury bought out it is time to move on.

There is no upside to having Marbury remain with this team. His influence basically sabatoged last season from the get go. His association with the Knicks needs to end. I don't care if its a trade, buyout or lifelong IR- there's no need to make him a reclamation project and I don't think Walsh and D'Antoni have any willingness to do so. What happens if he plays well for 1 year anyway? We're going to let him walk.

I hope this comes to pass. Until Marbury is gone, I will make no assumptions.
Wishing everyone well. I enjoyed posting here for a while, but as I matured I realized this forum isn't for me. We all evolve. Thanks for the memories everyone.

I understand wanting to keep him in order to possibly use his contract, but if you ask me, the best thing we can do is get rid of him. Start the healing. Change the culture immediately.

I agree. I also wouldn't mind an exile of him or public execution.

Waltoni has to consider all aspects of their actions when it comes to Steph. They can't do anything with him that will hurt the team in any way. I don't see any sense in a trade, even if that were possible. Letting his salary just come off the books is what's best for this team now.

This is purely a business decision at this point. Like or dislike for Steph has nothing to do with this. Even tho I do believe his presence can be a huge distraction for the team, which was proved last year in particular. Still patience in handling this is IMO the best course of action.

I thought the team spirit picked up when it was clear he was shutting it down for the year and the team had a chance to adjust to his not being here. It would seem to me that a fresh start to the year without him being present could have a positive effect as well.

It's so funny how everytime Marbury leaves a team, they end up winning 50 games the next yr and on to the playoffs.

minny = 1999-00 50-32 new pg Terel Brandon, 1st round knockout

NJ = 2001-02 52-30 new pg was jason kidd and went to NBA finals vs Lakers

Phoenix = 2004-2005 62-20 Steve Nash and went to western conference finals vs SPurs

NY Knicks = 2008-2009 record=? Pg Chris Duhorn ??? ??? ??? can we win 50 games without MArbury? We'll see.

I guess I'm the only one willing to defend Marbs and say we should keep him. I really believe he can return to last summer's form and provide some more entertaining YouTube clips and quotes. Unfortunately we don't have a sexual harassment trial this year to provide a platform for his antics, but I'm sure some venue could be found, if the Knicks would only try.
