Bucks general manager John Hammond said team officials wanted to get to know a little bit more about Alexander, on and off the court, during that second visit.

What did they find out about him?

Possibly that he listens to Lil’ Wayne on his headphones before games, that “American Dad” is one of his favorite television shows — it’s an acquired taste, he says — that he idolized Michael Jordan as a youth and that West Virginia’s upset victory over Duke in the 2008 NCAA tournament, which advanced the Mountaineers to the Sweet 16, was the most exciting game he played in during college.

There had been some talk before the draft that New York was interested in Alexander but when the Knicks took Italian Danilo Gallinari with the No. 6 pick, the door was open for the Bucks togo for Alexander.

Will this comeback to Haunt us ???
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The 21-year-old Alexander played three seasons at West Virginia and improved each season. He began receiving national attention his junior year under coach Bob Huggins as he led the Mountaineers in scoring (16.9 ppg) and rebounding (6.4) and was selected to the all-Big East first team, and was named an honorable mention All-American by the Associated Press.

Alexander was born in Taiwan and spent the first eight years of his life abroad, where his father was in business. He also lived in China and Hong Kong, speaks Mandarin and will become the first Taiwanese-born player to play in the NBA. Alexander says his formative years overseas have given him a more worldly view of things and caused him to grow up faster than other youths.

Alexander’s next stop is Milwaukee, where he thinks he can contribute right away.

“I plan on stepping in and getting as many minutes as I deserve and working for every one of them,” Alexander said. “You know, whatever that is, is up to them to decide.”

we'll see soon enough... i know a lot of people would have much rather we took Alexander & i sure wouldn't have complained if that had happened even tho i'm happy w/Gallinari... just gotta trust in the pick & hope for the best at this point.

Alexander is definitely the better athlete, but I think that Gallinari is the better basketball player. One of the best athletes the Knicks have every had was Kenny 'Sky' Walker. He raced against a horse and won. But he he had no shot and for all his speed didn't have a good move to the basket. He tried hard and played good defense, but was considered a bust by most fans because he was picked in the lottery and wasn't very productive.

Alexander and Gallo make a good comparison because both play with a lot of heart. Alexander is the better athlete, while Gallo has more skill. We'll see which is the better player. I think it will be Gallinari.

Gallanari would be better in the euro league, Aleander will be better in the NBA.
Stern wants more players from europe with skill sets in the league, so that he can keep changing the rules to help them along in the NBA.

Alexander was my fav pick in this draft.. possibly even before Westbrook or Love. That being said Knicks took a look at both and I trust Walsh. I have an open mind

Cosign....

Picture this........Alexander blows past Gallinari on a drive for a vicious slam only for Gallinari to turn up court and receive a transition 3pter......I can see that happening a lot.

Gallinari went to the line alot for his team.. in fact he was among the league leaders in FT attempts. Dont think he's a soft jumpshooter. Drawing contact is a big part of his game

Nah not saying he's soft. I'm just running a scenerio.

I can see Alexander working hard and wasting energy while Gallo calmly knocks down transition threes and gets and ones all day, frustrating whoever guards him.

We gotta build some positive energy around "the rooster"......after all its a Italian family tradition.

Another analogy would be Jumping Johnny Green who, at 6'5" would jump center against Chamberlain but he like Walker fell short in the skill department. Anoth fair ballplayer now runs the Pacers-Bird wasn't much of an athlete but had the skills and did compete on a pretty fair basis. Not comparing him to Galinari because I haven't seen him play but just to emphasize the point that physical skills help but don't necessarily translate to a successful NBA career.

People let's just keep it real.

NY Fans want a white fundamentally sound player to excel in NY in the worst way.

Joe Alexander is one of the few who has freakish athleticism, but since we didn't draft him NYORKERS are gonna hype this kid especially if he gets almost 20 a game with about 4 assist.

Realist understands that summer league is just that a league that wannabe NBA players come and try to get a rep to latch on to some team as the 11th or 12th man.

I hope this kid Gallanari makes me eat crow soup and burgers for the knicks sake, but to compare him being the 6th pick overall from Europe and try to equate him to perform admirably when the reg season NBA comes around is just ludacrious.

I don't buy that. I think you are covering your azz, so if he does well, you will refer to this post on how you said,"you wished him well", but if he fails, you will refer to this same post with the "I told you so" tone..

come on playa, who are you fooling?

one thing I noticed about this kid fish, is how well he uses both hands and can change hands in the air.. In the NBA, it is all about getting your shot off, this kid can do that, plus he has the size and ball handling skills to present problems for anyone guarding him...

Where I live upstate it's heavily populated with Italians, I am speaking from what I know, not something I am making up. They are proud of their heritage being represented in the NBA IN AMERICA, it's nothing wrong with that.

David Lee isn't Italian !

My white friends are basketball junkies, also they are a little older than me. The knicks taking Gallanari to them is like the yankees playing an exibition game in upstate ny.
