If it didn’t work in Phoenix with Nash and Stoutamire... it’s just not a winning formula. It’s an entertaining formula, but not a winning one. - Derek Harper talking about D'Antoni's System

Not bad. Galinari's a decent athlete, and he has a good NBA body.
But, he'll very rarely be able to dunk like that on anyone in the NBA.

If the lane opens up like that, someone, I don't care what league you are in, is getting dunked on.. the was up there and fully extended.... not many times do dunks like that get blocked....

Sure, Galinari could dunk like that on a guard or Eddy Curry standing in front of him, but when it is Okafor or even Shelden Williams, he will go for the layup or he will eat the ball.

Good luck Mike D'Antoni, 'cause you ain't never seen nothing like this before!

I'm with you on that. I still can't understand why people get excited over someone over 6-7 dunking. If you look at his fee he isn't jumping. YOu can find a guy on every playground that jumps higher than most of these "athletes"
I just hope that people will like me

Thats good because if you look at his hands theyre almost at the top of the backboard...he must have one hell of a wingspan if hes not jumping

Okay smart asse, allow me to reword. He isn't jumping high. I can walk down to the YMCA, go to their 9 foot hoops and touch the top of the backboard. Nobody is impressed by this. So why are we impressed when a guy 6-8 can do the same on a 10 foot hoop. It is by far the most overrated skill in sports. Tim Duncan, Magic Johnson, Larry Bird, Paul Pierce, Ray Allen didn't need to be monster dunkers to be champions. Can he play, that's all I care about.
I know I'm the party pooper. I'm just not impressed by these things. Nate impresses me when he dunks. Gallinari does not.

I think the point here is not that Galinari is some kind of super-athlete, but that in addition to having refined skills and good size, he is a good athlete for his size/height. (And likely still growing.)
Most guys 6'8" are not great athletes. They tend to be more awkward and less coordinated than shorter players.
Yes, I understand that there are a lot of great 6'8" athletes in the NBA. But most of them don't have strong handles and nice shots, and vice-versa.
Galinari made a nice end-to-end play that demonstrated he is a good runner and a decent leaper. Nobody said he's the best white dunker ever: Tom Chambers!
All the Galinari clips I've seen really remind me of Turkoglu.

Allow me to say again. I am never impressed when a 6-8 or taller guy dunks a basketball. it is simply not impressive to me.

Allow me to repeat: It isn't "The Dunk". It is the nice end to end play. That he finished going strong to the hoop with some malice instead of a finger-roll is a good thing.

He was talking about something different than I was. Like I said above, Galinari isn't a good enough athlete to pull that play off much in the NBA.
David Lee on the other hand can cram it on anybody. He is a truly impressive athlete at 6'9". But Galinari is waaaay ahead of Lee offensively, probably farther along than Lee will ever be, and yes, I am saying that without ever seeing Galinari play for real.
