If we trade Lee for a PG, then we are stuck with Z-Ro and DG manning the PF spot. Once we trade Z-Ro for an expiring contract to clear cap space then who will be our PF (DG is not ready). We will probably need to sign one even before the summer of 2010 just to attract the likes of LeBron.

With that in mind, I say we keep Lee and DG and get rid of Z-Ro for expiring contracts (which should include a veteran PG). Sign Lee to a reasonable contract before the start of the season. That will leave us with Lee, Curry, and Crawford with contracts beyond the 2009-2010 season. If Lee doesn't work out, we could always trade him because he would have a reasonable contract and he's a decent asset.

Trade scenerio: Z-Ro and Mardy to Washington for Etan Thomas and Antonio Daniels (Both expiring after the 2009-2010 season). Daniels would be a serviceable PG until we could draft one next year. Also with Daniels here, we would be able to buy Marbury out. Lord knows we don't want Marbury in the locker room for another year.

We could probably get a pick back from Washington too. Maybe I'm pushing it alittle too much.

This would also be insurance for Washington which may not re-sign Jamison.

I think we definitely should be in the market for picks - even if they are second rounders. This team needs assets and youth.

I'm against buying Marbury out. Let him come to camp and play this season. With the number of incompetent GMs in the NBA, we may luck up and get offers in Feb at the deadline for his expiring contract. If not, just let the contract fall off the books.

it might be interesting to see what marbury looks like when he's playing for his next contract. he'd probably have his best season in years.

that said, i don't think he'll be back next season. this organization is too vindicative for that. it's a shame, marbury and the knicks deserve each other. classless losers.

In no way should we trade his contract before the deadline. All 20 Mil of it should go off the books at the end of the season if we are trying to get under the cap. Personnally, I don't care if he plays or not. It's his attitude that bothers me. I say we let him play, but don't allow him to come to practice.

What about that trade idea though.

I think it would benefit both Washington and us to do a trade of Z-Ro and Mardy for Etan Thomas and Antonio Daniels.

Trade them both.

Trial by fire for DG.

Frank Isola was on the Fan last night with Moose and said he doesn't expect Marbury to make it to camp. Indicated that Thomas wants to buy him out, Dolan doesn't like him anymore and Walsh don't want him around. He said Thomas still has the ears of Dolan and Walsh about this team.

Why on earth woul dIsiah have Walsh's ear about this team? Isiah's work here speaks for itself - the guy should be in exile.

That's easier said than done. Zach Randolph is close to unmovable. Same with the other fat boy.
Thank you, Rick Brunson.

we lost any chance of dumping Zach Gandolph when we held onto that pick... he's not going anywhere... there isn't a team in the NBA that wants that albatross on their books unless they're getting back something real good in return.

deebo,

i'm in favor of any trade which can rid us of Randolph's contract - as long as we don't take on another handcuff of a contract. I'd take Daniels and Thomas for what we give up . . . saying this w/o knowing what their contracts look like. If they extend past 2010 free agency offseason, then I would have to think a little harder.

I would trade Marbury if the right offer came back - young, role players w/manageable 2yr or less contracts from a team looking to take advantage of Steph's contract. I'd buy out James and Rose if looking in that direction.

Don't trade Lee, trade Z-Ro
