a Lee for Barbosa deal is complicated because of Barbosa's BYC status, but if you could somehow manage it by including fillers like Jefferies, Nate, Mardy, Alando Tucker & Robin Lopez, i think it might be a decent solution to this problem (can't check this on Trade Checker cuz Lopez is yet to be listed on RealGM)

- a deal of this nature would save Phoenix $7.6 mil in salary in 2011 when Barbosa's player option kicks in, & doesn't hurt our longterm cap situation since we'll be plenty under the cap in 2011 anyway

- Lopez will replace Lee's rebounding & provide some much needed shotblocking in the frontcourt & an able backup for Curry at C

- Tucker was a 20 & 5 player his senior year at Wisconsin & some scouting sites i've read describe him as a solid defender... he might be able to find a niche on this team playing behind Jamal.

- Barbosa w/Jamal in the backcourt offers u versatility & speed & well suited for an uptempo style game... then you have created more team balance by bringing in a defensive presence in the frontcourt... if u throw in a partial MLE signing like Duhon u end up w/this:

C - Curry / Lopez / Turdman
PF - Zach / Chandler / Malik
SF - Gallinari / Balkman
SG - Jamal / Q Rich / Tucker
PG - Barbosa / Duhon

dunno what u do w/Marbury but who cares... if he wants to be a pro & act like a mentor to his 1 time protege Barbosa, fine... if not, u can buy him out & send him home.

anyone think this would work?

Barbosa isn't a PG. He's a SG off the bench. A back court of him and Jamal makes me cringe.

As for getting Barbosa...why? His contract is a killer and there is no point in him. He's not the PG we need because he's not even a PG.
Thank you, Rick Brunson.

i view Jamal & Barbosa as interchangeable... i know he's not a classic PG but it gives u 2 guys who can handle the rock, who are long & very athletic... we already know Barbosa can be very effective in Mike's system & he could help Jamal learn it by playing alongside him... his contract is a nonfactor in this deal cuz we'd be trading Jefferies in the process & we're gonna be well under the cap in 2011 anyways.

plus i think Lopez can be a guy like Varejao is for CLE so we wouldn't be missing D Lee all that much & we'd gain a shotblocking presence, something we desperately need... D Lee would be a nice backup for Amare at PF over there & to go play w/his new buddy Nash u have to believe he wouldn't nix a trade like that.

i think it works for all parties if the dollars can somehow match up under the CBA rules.

But can Lopez spread the floor?

we got our guy who can spread the floor now in Gallinari... it's not like D Lee was threatening anyone w/his shotmaking ability... we only need Lopez to come in & do what he supposedly already knows how to do, just make hustle plays, block shots & play some D in the frontcourt.

having Jamal, Barbosa, Gallinari & even Zach & Curry down low can spread the floor plenty.

I just being sarcastic because that is now MSG favorite new phrase. I heard it from everybody on the program. I don't think Phx gets rid of Lopez (a guy they got after Mike D left). Kerr made a statement with that pick about the direction of that team. I also think Lee extension is now an issue.

i think Phoenix is a team that wants to win now & D Lee is more polished as a player at this point than Lopez... but ur point is well taken about Lee's extension... it might take Malik's expiring instead of Jefferies in that deal to make it feasible at which point things take on a different light.

just throwing some ideas out thurr.

I think your deal makes sense for Mike D and what he wants to do. Right now it is hard to judge what's going on in this organization. It looks like they are all over the place. I can't tell if they are rebuilding or trying to win as soon as possible. Walsh talking about the trading season hasn't started yet. Is he taking on more salary for a proven vet or looking at rookie contracts. Isola reporting that Dolan, Walsh and Thomas wants Marbury gone but he is still on the team. Lee turning down trades. The team still using Thomas scouting reports.

the rumor going around is Knicks sending Lee to Charlotte for Raymond felton who is 10x better than Barbosa.

Felton is a legit PG and definitely can fit in Mike D's system

Isola was smoking crack that was another smoke screen. Have you noticed how the media gets played.
1. Sources said MDA doesnt like Galinari game when he first started
2. Sources say that Walsh has his point guard for the draft tonight
3. Sources say Lee turns down a trade when he cant
4. Isola says Felton for Lee trade not true at all
5. Sources say TMS, TrueBLue, and Briggs are buying a home together.
6. Sources say sources are full of crap.
I can see Lee getting traded but to who is anyone guess

The Draft from the inside
by Steve on Sat Jun 28, 2008 1:57 am

So as most of you guys know, I work for the NBA so of course I was at the draft last night. I got out of doing any serious work while I was there so I got to just chill and walk around. Here's some random stuff from the draft, as well as some stuff from today's NBA Cares event I also took part in:

-The Felton rumor... it definitely had legs. Actually, when I heard about it, it was a done deal that involved David Lee and someone for Felton, someone and next year's first rounder. That obviously didn't happen, and thats the last I heard about it so this definitely WAS true, but it may not be anymore. I wouldn't be opposed though, Felton is a great guard and a UNC guy for Donnie. He fits the D'Antoni system too. Either way... it WAS legit.

-Gallinari... I personally like it a lot. The only person I wanted over him was Bayless and I was a little disappointed at first, but after talking to a lot of credible people in the theatre and at NBA Cares today, I like it a lot more. Literally everyone there last night thought it was the sensible and correct pick for the Knicks. He's a young kid who loves to work and learn and with D'Antoni at the helm, it's a good fit. He won't be a superstar but everyone agreed neither will anyone else who was there at 6. Today at NBA Cares I ate with Rick Kamla from NBATV and the head of international basketball operations for the NBA. Kam said he liked the pick, but the international ops guy (Arturus) said we are going to be very happy and a lot of the ignorant fans who booed him, yelled at him and chanted "USA" at the draft are going to feel pretty stupid.

-Other odds and ends ****... I got to meet OJ Mayo. He was extremely nice and extremely professional. Jerryd Bayless was PISSED at the Blazers trade. He wouldn't talk to anyone. Joe Alexander doesn't want to be a Buck. Brook and Robin Lopez are big *******s and when they turn out to be stiffs I will laugh hard. Beasley is pretty cool too, but you can tell he's 19. Eric Gordon was an ***, I can't wait til he sucks too. Coolest dude of the night was OJ Mayo though. Extremely personable and a good guy. I was with Gallinari for a bit but didn't really get to say much. All I said was, word for word: "screw everyone here, you'll be fine." He just smiled and nodded.TheKnicksBlog.com - Brought to you by SNY

David Lee and someone for Felton, someone and next year's first rounder

who could those someone's have been i wonder... anyway, these rumors are only rumors... nothing's legit until it happens.

surprising to hear about Joe Alexander not wanting to go to the Bucks... in his interview he seemed stoked to be going there... i could tell Bayless was pissed at that POR trade when NBA TV interviewed him after it went down... he wouldn't even look at the camera, i bet he was crying.

Rumor or not I would rather get Felton than Barbosa. If both are available in excgange of Lee, Felton is clearly the better palyer.

of course, so would i... but the Barbosa package i'm talking about includes other talent than just him... it also entails us getting rid of a bad contract... u have to factor everything in when judging the trade but i agree i would rather have Felton.
