Let me first just say this. I ****ing love the NBA Draft. I love the fact that the guys in college that I’ve watched so intently and either have built them up to be something they’re not (Mike Sweetney) or made 100 posts about how bad they suck (Channing Frye.) I love the fact that these guys are up for drafting and we have no idea where they are going to go. I love watching and wondering if the team with the top draft pick will surprise everyone and not draft the consensus #1 or if they trade the pick. I love finding out whose trading who and for what picks as part of the deal. And most of all I love wondering what the hell my New York Knicks are going to do.

To be honest though, I haven’t felt that way in 5 or 6 years. Since 2003 when Isiah took over, there hasn’t been ONE draft that I’ve looked forward to. After not having a pick in the 2004 draft, we come to that terrible, terrible, terrible year - 2005. In the spring and summer (prior to the draft) I ran up and down this board hitting up every thread I could saying “CHANNING FRYE SUCKS, HE IS THE ONLY GUY I DON’T WANT, PLEASE GO AFTER DANNY GRANGER OR ANDREW BYNUM” alas, draft night comes, I’m at gunsnewing’s house (where the **** are you anyway guns?) and we get to the 7th pick. David Stern waddles to the podium “With the 7th pick in the NBA draft, the New York Knicks select…. (my mind races, Andrew Bynum or Danny Granger, Andrew Bynum or Danny Granger, Andrew Bynum or Danny Granger please god please) .. The New York Knicks select …. The New York Knicks select……. THE NEW YORK KNICKS SELECT…. Channing Frye, Arizona” I swear to God ,and guns can attest to it, I literally fell of the couch and laid on the floor like someone had shot me, this lasted for a good 20 minutes. I couldn’t believe it. I couldn’t believe that a pro GM would draft a snickerdoodle lovin mother****er like Channing Frye, the guy I didn’t want anything to do with, yet A NBA GM drafted him anyway and then later on went to say “I’d take Channing Frye #1 in this draft.” After this, Draft nights were never the same for me again.

Knicks trade two “unprotected 1st round picks for Eddy Curry” Are you kidding me?!?! 2 UNPROTECTED PICKS?! I guess that means no draft fun for me.
With the 20th pick in the NBA Draft, the New York Knicks select, Renaldo Balkman…” WHO?
With the 23rd pick in the NBA Draft, the New York Knicks select Wilson Chandler..” again WHO?

After the Channing Frye debacle, these are the kinds of things we had to live with, either not having our own draft pick or having a low ****ty one, even though our team was losing 45-50 games annually. How can ANYONE literally get excited about this honestly? And this is coming from a guy that makes plans for the NBA weeks prior because he gets that excited about it. With Isiah Thomas at the helm though, this isn’t possible. I just don’t know what the **** Isiah Thomas was doing. And people seriously want to say he was an ok drafter? Please.

Now fast-forward to 2008. The ****ing jackass that killed my draft night experience for 4 straight years is now finally gone! Donnie Walsh is introduced as GM and Mike D’Antoni is introduced as coach. OK, things are finally looking up with these two as Knicks. NOW I’m hearing all kinds of rumors about the Knicks might be selecting this guy and might be trading for this guy and attaining this other pick. THIS is what I remember the NBA Draft being all about. THIS is what I used to make plans weeks in advance for. THIS is when my New York Fucking Knicks get back on the right track.

Finally.. for the first time in years, I can whole-heartedly say…

IT’S DRAFT TIME BABY!

i remember IMing w/Solace on draft night 2002... we were so excited about who we were gonna take... would it be Wilcox? Caron Butler? would the Knicks take a flyer on a HS kid Amare?

& then it happened.

"The NY Knicks have traded their #7 pick along with Marcus Camby & Mark Jackson for Antonio McDyess."

don't think i should tell you what we said after that news broke... there are women & children present.

I was pretty excited for that trade. That balky knee of McDyess really sunk this franchise.

That was awful. We were so excited and had the rug completely pulled out from under us. If I remember correctly I had to get some alcohol in my system to watch the rest of the draft because I was so disappointed.

get ready Solace.

Should be very interesting. My gut tells me we're going to: A) go with a safe, boring pick (the top 5 players are off the board by the time we pick), or B) completely botch this one by making a major reach. At least, I don't see us making a disastrous trade tonight. I will check in for the pick, but I'm probably not going to watch the whole thing.
Wishing everyone well. I enjoyed posting here for a while, but as I matured I realized this forum isn't for me. We all evolve. Thanks for the memories everyone.

Man that trade for McDone was probably the worst trade in history - we got nothing out of it and gave away Camby and the #7 - it is a miracle that Layden wasn't fired on the spot. What the hell was he thinking?

Of course now Dyess can play just fine on the Pistons (although not what he once was) and Camby is still a great player.
