Maybe I'm just too beaten down by this franchise to be hopeful, but does anybody really believe that we'll land the # 5 w/o giving up the # 6?

I'm not expecting it. I never have high expectations when I hear rumors like this. But, it's not impossible. Remember, it's Memphis we're talking about.

I think swapping Malik for Cardinal to move up from 6 to 5 is a smart move. I don't see any reason to give up David Lee in order to have 5 and 6 in this particular draft, unless that would somehow give us the ability to add both Mayo and Love, which would be quite a strong maneuver.

Well just hearsay but apparently Memphis wants to trade the 5 if Love is no longer available.

The reason to give up Lee is again cap flexibility, better have someone on the rookie scale then a resigned Lee in 2010/2011 meaning more capspace trades needed for Lebron/Dwyane/Chris Bosh or whatever.

Exactly. And we're talking about acquiring the 5th pick IN ADDITION TO the 6th pick VDesai. For the good of the franchise's future, this is the right move. We just have to pray that either Minny or Seattle takes Love then we can get the ball rolling on this deal. But if Love's still on the table at 5 then this thing with Memphis is dead. But for ESPN to be commenting on this scenario I think this is a trade that actually has some legs.

My dream draft:

#5 - Bayless
#6 - Anthony Randolph
Acquire 2 more picks somehow (gonna be hard with Lee outta the picture) - mid-first rounder for JaVale McGee, lower first rounder for Courtney Lee

We'll see tomorrow what happens....
