Word on the Street: Last-Minute Workouts

DeAndre Jordan Impresses Big Time in Private Workouts

As a result of my continuous efforts to obtain the latest inside information, it is now this writer’s opinion that DeAndre Jordan has substantially impressed teams with how well he has presented himself in private workouts (with Sacramento and Phoenix) and his stock is on the rise!

That is why the very young players with raw skills shouldnt be discounted---If Jordan ever broke out in college at 7-0 255 with his athletiscm--he could go 1---this is why you have to go to the last minute and have an open mind.

Some of these cats do just enough to get drafted high then they cruise until the last yr of the rookie contract. I recall an NBA PLAYER "IKE AUSTIN" who played for the miami heat back in the 90's lost a lot of weight and got paid and then went back to obscurity.

playa he hasnt even been drafted yet. He's an enigma because his coach did not give him the PT when he was leading the NCAA in FG%--understandably because there were senior big men. There is no doubt about it he would have to improve a lot of things but he is very coordinated incrdibly athlethi and 7 feet tall. That is why it is jibberish to label a 18-19 yO a bust. I was high on Deandre and soured--calling him Tony Battie at the end of the season. But that is not fair and unreasonable--possibly very wrong. This years draft--I cant believe anything will be set in stone until the last couple of hours. Teh nice thing about having pick 6 is the leverage it brings. It would be a HUGE error in judegement for the Knicks to NOT look at Jordan again given the workouts he had in Charlotte and what Givony has stated[and he seems to be the only non BS when it comes to the draft. At the end of the day my hope is we get the BEST player available that projects for the long term.

It's a case of a player coming out too soon. He may be a diamond in the rough, but I don't see anyone drafting him that early just on the chance that he'll be a diamond and not a cubic zirconia. For every Kevin Garnett, there are many Kwame Brown's.

I think that the bottom line is the NY Knicks need to keep their minds and eyes open until the last minutes. This is obviously the most confusing draft maybe of all time--the most I can ever remember and Im 40. The Knicks owe it to their fans to go over things 2-3-4 time s if necessary and be open to taking looks at players that may be projected lower to the last day. In many other drafts it really was much easier to spot a real stud--or like you said diamond in the rough--this year--its difficult because of the unusual deep talent level. The draft is much deeper than I anticpated and initially believed. Pheonix seems to draft very good players and Im sure most of the scouts who have been there are still there.

Alexis Ajinca- The next best secret

I watched him in that Charlotte workout--he's very good-- long the one thing that did stand out--and I think LB picked it up was the fact that he would like his 7 footers to play in the post and not on the perimeter (the permimeter) is where it looks like ajinca likes to play from. Certainly he could be a wildcard. My bet is LB takes Jordan if he is still available--I think Phoenix may try to move up to 7 to grab him.
