Are kidding why would anyone blast that Idea (except for walsh) with no defensive minded player on the team, why wouldn't a S&T be full talks. I just don't know how steph would work with him. The chemistry is what Im worry about.

Nice argument - pictures.

Considering Artest wants a long-term contract and add the fact that he's still crazy and we suck and I don't see the point in adding him. Ron Artest is perfect for a contender. I don't think trying to repair our image by signing Ron Artest is the best way to go. I'll leave it at that.
Thank you, Rick Brunson.

I love the idea, except we don't have a strong leader here to keep him in check.

That settles it, Fish is the second coming of Isiah.

I didn't want to believe it but it's indisputable now.

I want him here too. I don't think DW does though.

I like pictures. If he can just be pictures then bring him on.

The promise of artest is very tempting. A mature Artest who won't get into the music business and stay focused would be a great asset. An Artest who can live with the contract he signs would be a great asset.

An Artest who would love his coach (and they do love MikeD) would be an asset.

Walsh knows the kid as well as anyone so if he makes it happen, im down with it 100%. This is not stupid Isiah/Dolan running things, we got a world class coach and team Pres in charge. I bit more of the cred thing.

But if we are really dumping salary, is artest really a long term player for us? ANd were do we play him? At the 3 or 4?

Considering Artest wants a long-term contract
He's 28

the fact that he's still crazy
except we don't have a strong leader here to keep him in check

20 points, 6 rebs, 3.5 assists and 2.2 steals last 2 years in Sac. Who was their strong leader? Who kept him in check?

I don't think trying to repair our image by signing Ron Artest is the best way to go
I see our image as a soft team that doesnt play hard, has no pride lays down night after night. Artest wouldnt help there?

Isiah
Just for the record I am not thinking giving SA the #6 pick, Nate and Malik's expiring deal for Artest in a sign and trade. I am thinking full MLE or 3 years if Ron Ron so prefers.

Drafting Westbrook (even if he just comes off the bench) and adding Artest immediatly changes the type of team we have.

*KA POW* Consider yourself blasted.

Seriously, Artest? He's a tremendous player, but we're talking possibly worse than Dennis Rodman here. Who do we have to keep this guy in line? What do we do the next time this guy gets suspended for a year for punching a fan? Would he even come cheaply enough to make it worth it?

I'd love Artest... but on a team that needs one piece to be a contender and has some guys with strong character. This team needs every piece and has no character, outside of the recent coach and GM hires. I think Artest has a great chance at the WWE, though.

Wishing everyone well. I enjoyed posting here for a while, but as I matured I realized this forum isn't for me. We all evolve. Thanks for the memories everyone.

I would love Artest to be a Knick... in the right situation.

I do think the argument that he would not behave without a strong leader on the team is valid. If Artest could play with a Duncan or Jordan, he'd be great.

I don't think it's the right fit. I think we need to start over. That said, if we got him, I know a part of me would be excited and hopeful.

Good question

Lets say we can trade Curry for TJ Ford straight up (or about as much)

What do you think about this line up to start next year
pg Ford
sg Q
sf Chandler
pf Artest
c Zach
bench: Crawford, Nate, Lee
possibly even start Marbury at shooting guard. Get them playing decent BB and look to move Zach/Marbury at the deadline

I think Q/Zachs rebounding with Ford/Artest/Chandler running will make the Knicks look like a team and compete on a nightly basis. Win games? Who knows.. but if we got Zach, Q and Marbury playing like normal NBA players and were playing say .450 ball I think we could really be in position to overhaul the roster and NOT have to pay a team like Phili our draft to take Zach

If you can get him for the MLE(he opts out) you have to do it. He's a borderline all-star who plays hard D and maybe could help instill a culture of D. Goodness knows we'll have enough trouble with that w/ D'Antoni.

If they can do this exact scenerio? Sweet Christmas they have to do it. D'antoni is the coach. I believe he could get a group like this doing some big things in nyc.

I like the idea of KMart/Lee in the frontcourt with a a little anthony randolf and wilson chandler at the small foward spot. I like nate, but i don't think he is professional enough i wouldn't mind packaging him with balkman for artest, i think sactown would do the deal.

Marbury/Crawford
Artest/Q
Chandler/Randolf
Martin/Lee
Curry/Jefferies

I actually like that team and really think thy could make some noise, the east is very weak, and we instantly become a good defensive team and I could see Mike using Artest at the four and playing three guards that can shoot the ball at once. I like that team, or even Westbrook instead of Randolf to take over when marbury expires, i see nothing wrong with giving Ron 7million for four years.

i wanted to go after Artest the second i heard about that moronic Zach trade last year... i posted about it several times... i think Artest would be a better fit on a team that plays a halfcourt, physical style... on that type of team it could even work to hold onto a guy like Zach & put guys like Artest around them... yeah, it's a huge powderkeg of belligerent personalities ready to explode, but it's also a team that would complement one another in terms of talent & ability... on a run & gun team i dunno how well Artest fits.

on a MLE contract i'd be willing to take the chance, but not if i had to make a S&T & give up D Lee... most i give up is Q Rich or Malik & Chandler, otherwise pass.

Isiah was afraid of Artest because he coached him and could not control him. D'Antoni is not a coach who would be able to control Artest. I think Walsh will stay away from guys who might give D'Antoni a hard time. I also think the Zach for Martin trade is horrible. Martin has had two microfracture surgeries and his game is based on athleticism. He has a horrible contract, and has been a problem in the locker room and with coaches. There is a reason Martin is mentioned in every trade rumor involving the Nuggets. He was a mistake and he was a mistake before he got hurt twice.

Walsh traded for him in Indy & then traded him out of Indy... who knows what Walsh will do at this point... if we don't use the MLE it wouldn't be the end of the world either... i wouldn't mind signing Sasha Vujacic tho... that guy would be great in D'Antoni's system IMO & unlike popular opinion about Euro players he does play hard w/a lot of guts & plays D.
