Suns Expect Top Pick To Contribute

Jun 06, 2008 12:01 PM EST

The Suns have the fifteenth pick in this month's NBA Draft and they expect the player they take to contribute out of the gates, according to The Arizona Republic.

"We feel very, very confident that the 15th (pick) will be a solid player and potentially a contributor," Suns Senior Vice President of Basketball Operations David Griffin said. "The draft is very deep. It's not too terribly heavy after the first two picks. That's a good thing, because beauty is in the eye of the beholder. You could get a guy at 13 who may have been third on your board or, in our case at 15, who may have been fifth."

"If we did anything to our picks, it would be to add picks. We're absolutely committed to getting younger and adding depth," Griffin added.

The Suns worked out Anthony Randolph and Donte Green on Wednesday. D.J. Augustin, Mario Chamlers and J.J. Hickson were also expected to be evaluated this week by the Suns.

So wait a second here the Suns have the 15th pick in the draft and they expect the pick to contribute in a significant way on that deep team when supposedly the wheels start coming off the draft after pick 6? Did anyone catch his comparison pick 5 may = pick 15 therefore it's not unreasonable to assume pick 6 may = pick 16.

Take this medicine and gulp it down I know it's going to be tough to do so.

Donnie Walsh, Bryan Colangelo, Jerry Colangelo, and John Paxson all agree D'Antoni is a good coach. I guess this is the standard for settling difference of opinion. That's four execs to your one exec by the way.

I guess people who like the D'Antoni hire "don't have to worry". Goodbye insomnia -- an NBA exec agrees with my irrelevant opinion!!!

hey fish, as some put it around here.... when we have the troika or marion, nash and amare then we can look at the 15th pick comming in and contributing to a stacked team.. Until then, I will keep my 6th pick and hope they become a big talent down the road.....

As you said. good for the suns...

Add Kobe who thinks Mike D is a "great coach" and has while he didnt pick his number after Mike D has "nothing but love."

Mike is a great coach. Thats a fact based on numerous opinions.

Kobe had nice things to say about Isiah too. So much for that reference.
If it didn’t work in Phoenix with Nash and Stoutamire... it’s just not a winning formula. It’s an entertaining formula, but not a winning one. - Derek Harper talking about D'Antoni's System

i think people need to trust in both Walsh & D'Antoni & stop pretending they know more about how to build a winning program than those guys do personally.
After 7 years & 40K+ posts, banned by martin for calling Nalod a 'moron'. Awesome.

the reason they are saying that pick 15 is going to contribute is the suns have basically been selling their picks because they are too cheap, and that has caught up with them and their team is bordering on ancient with Nash & Shaq.

Jason Kidd said Franbury would work while we're using outside sources.

Jason Kidd said Franbury would work while we're using outside sources.

Jason Kidd also wanted Byron Scott fired and begged and pleaded to get Zo on the Nets. I think Kidd's comments are rendered absolutely useless.
