The comments at the bottom of the website are stupid as hell. Don't bother scrolling down to read them unless you want to be humored.

Volcano Erupts on Galapagos Islands

QUITO, Ecuador (May 31) - A volcano on the largest of the Galapagos Islands has begun erupting and authorities are evaluating possible dangers to the island's famed plant and animal life, officials said Friday.

Rangers and tour guides spotted lava flowing down the northeastern flank of the Cerro Azul volcano on the seahorse-shaped island of Isabela late Thursday, the Galapagos National Park said in a statement.

Ecuador's Geophysics Institute said that satellite data and a flyover of the island by park officials showed a "small amount of ash" coming out of the volcano, located on the southwestern edge of the island.

Park official Oscar Carvajal told Radio Quito that as many as four lava flows "have consumed a lot of vegetation," but do not pose a threat to the famed Galapagos tortoises.

Neither was the eruption endangering people on the island, park official Vinicio Pauta said.

The 5,600-foot Cerro Azul - one of five active volcanoes on the island - last erupted in September 1998, causing minor damage to plant life. Cerro Azul is located in the unpopulated southwestern corner of the island.

In the last eruption, rare tortoises were airlifted from around the crater on helicopters to escape the lava, but several massive turtles were burned.

"I could see the red glow from my house last night," said Jacqueline Brunf, a New York native who owns a tour operator business on another of the islands. "It was really strange we didn't feel anything or hear anything."

The Galapagos Islands, 625 miles off of Ecuador's Pacific coast, are known for unique plant and animal life, including giant tortoises, marine iguanas and seabirds known as blue-footed boobies. Charles Darwin's observations of the islands' finches helped inspire his theory of evolution.

For one thing, not just for this reason, but I definitely think it's great that people aren't allowed to touch these Islands (I think that's how it is) unless you're a researcher with special permission. But it's good we don't have to worry about evacuating people from that Island, or more of the Islands for that matter.

However to me, equally as important, I really hope that ecosystem doesn't get f'ed up because of this, but if it does, it's one of those things where you have to say "That's nature." Unlike the f'ed up stuff going on in Asia, where it seems, sadly inevitable, that the forest life literally seems doomed because of deforestation, as a result of ignorant human activity, this is something that just can't be controlled. I hope for the best for those Islands though.

Apparently, a volcano in Chili is also erupting, and that definitely isn't good, because they are going to have to evacuate people. The volcano is right by a city.

I've been to Aranal in Costa Rica and active volcanos are great to behold. The power they exude is amazing to be near.

Im going to be in Galapagos for a week during a 3 week trip to south america this summer with my wife and kids. They can close the park at any time and they tell tourists to phuch off if park officials deem it necessary. I feel I gotta get there before they close it for good.

Nalod and family get there and the officials say 'phuck off'! Nalod says 'damn, f_k'd again!

That's too bad Allan. I guess if evolution is to take it's toll, then that's an appropriate place to do it in.

One of my favorite quotes is by an American Indian. He said 'the earth doesn't belong to us. We' belong to the earth'.

An appropriate observation in situations like this.

If the earth is ready to be rid of us, she'll do what's necessary. There seem to have been a lot of earthquakes and stuff recently. but if Yellowstone goes, watch out! Could be curtains.

On the plus side, I understand that when these volcanos put ash into the atmosphere, it can result in lower temperatures, so maybe it will offset global warming?

https:// It's not so hard.

I never heard that, and don't know if that's true, but if it is, then nature has a way of healing itself and working things out. Far more powerful than anything man can do.

Absolutely Allan.

This reminds me that the earth is much, much, much, much more baffling than the majority of people on earth realize. Check this out: 'the earth is actually growing'!

It's been growing for a long time. That's why the Continents fit together, but not for the reason give to us. Many scientists through the years have claimed and recorded in much of our literature that the earth was one mass of land (Pangaea) and the rest water.

According to core samples by scientist in the Navy, from sea floor beds, and others from all over the world, including on the mainlands, a whole new picture of the earth is actually beginning to come to light. Below is a 10 minute video to show you what's been happening. If you have the patience, watch the whole thing to get a better picture of what he's saying. This may change your mind about many different things you where brought up to believe in.

The question I have is 'what happened to the water'?. How does water shrink or interact with the inner earths core, which is now very, very hot? Was the entire top plates 'under water'? Was the water much, much deeper than it is now? It just goes to show you how bizzarr outer space is and how it effects us.

Also, do other planets do this? Is Jupiter for instance at it's biggest expansion? Will earth get this big. Fascinating!

The first part of the video shows you how it works and the second talks in great detail of different areas of what they found.

A word to the wise. To avoid argument, don't think of this map as 'political'. The human being wasn't even around when all of this was happening.
