I have been reading some draft reports and they said that Forbes is the most impressive player in the first 2 days of the NBA Pre Draft Camp. He also showed some glimpses that he is ready to play in the NBA because of his amazing footwork and body control

Height: 6'7"
Weight: 216 lbs
Wingspan: 6-10 3/4"

2007-08 NCAA Stats

19.4 ppg, 7.5 rpg, 3.0 apg, 72 % FT, 41.7 FG %

High School Career: Scored 1,512 points and grabbed 766 rebounds during his high school career ... Established career records for points, rebounds and blocked shots at Benjamin Banneker ... selected the Newsday Player of the Year in Brooklyn as a senior and was nominated for City Player of the Year ... earned first-team All-City and All-Tri-State honors ... McDonald's All-American finalist ... Averaged 31 points, 13 rebounds, three assists and three blocked shots a game as a senior.

SUMMER OF 2007: Played for Panamanian National Team in the FIBA Americas Championship held in Las Vegas ... Averaged 17.8 points per game in four contest for Panama, which went 1-3 ... Averaged 4.5 rebounds and 1.5 assists, shooting 55.6 from the floor ... Scored a game-high 29 points against Argentina (8/26) as he made 6-of-14 from the floor and 11-of-13 from the foul line ... In win over Mexico (8/24), scored nine points ... Netted team-high 19 points against Puerto Rico (8/23), also grabbed seven boards ... In opening game of tournament, tallied 14 points and had three rebounds in overtime loss to Uruguay (8/22) ... Prior to Championships, worked out with the team in Colon, Panama for eight-day training camp ... Also worked Nike and Adidas camps.

Day 2 Draft Reports.

Quote:
On the other side of the ball, Gary Forbes was clearly the best player on the winning team. He looked extremely instinctive putting the ball on the floor and taking it to the rack, getting to the free throw line repeatedly and finishing impressively around the cup. He also made some excellent passes, showed nifty ball-handling skills, and generally left a very strong first impression. He’s not overly athletic, but he’s extremely smart and crafty, and he just continued to add on what was an excellent performance last month at the Portsmouth Invitational Tournament. We’ll be watching him in the drills tomorrow to see how he shoots the ball from the perimeter.

Day 2 Scouting Reports

Quote:
For Team 2, the best player on the floor (and likely of the day) was clearly Gary Forbes, stringing together one of the best single-game performances (30 points, 7-16 FG, 15-16 FT, 26 minutes) we’ve seen in the last five years of the pre-draft camp. Forbes was incredibly aggressive putting the ball on the floor with either hand and making very strong moves to the basket, being very physical once there and in turn getting to the free throw line at will. His scoring instincts might be the best of any wing player at this camp, as he makes up for his lack of freakish athleticism with phenomenal footwork and body control, being able to quickly read and exploit angles, or move intelligently without the ball, in turn showing a very good basketball IQ that impressed many people here. Although his perimeter shot wasn’t a huge part of his game once again, he knocked down one of his two attempts from NBA range, which leaves optimism in that regard. He’s making a strong push for consideration in the early second round or possibly higher.

He seems like he is going to be a steal in the 2008 NBA Draft. He was never highly touted at the start of the Pre Draft Camp because of his lack of explosiveness and athleticism, but if you look back at his College Career it is proof that he can put up decent stats for his team.

Gary Forbes was projected as the 52nd pick in the NBA Mock Draft, and I am sure he is going to be a good addition for some veteran teams, who wants a young player that can be a decent scorer off the bench.
JAMES DOLAN on Isiah : He's a good friend of mine and of the organization and I will continue to solicit his views. He will always have strong ties to me and the team.

There is always a few.....quietly Isiah has picked 3 sleepers, 3 years in a row....David Lee was heading toward the second round and he is a stud. Balkman can play this game and he should help some team along the line if he continues to improve and keep his nose clean. Wilson Chandler was a suprise pick for everyone except Isiah. The dude is a hot topic for us fans, but it still remains to be seen what he actually is at this point.

Shan Foster will be a real sleeper whenever he goes in the 2nd round. Not the greatest athlete but he's got real good size at 6'6" and is a real clutch shooter - a guy that's taken and made I don't know how many 3s to tie games, win games or send games into O.T. this past season for Vandy.

I think Joey Dorsey may surprise alot of people. I would love for the Knicks to get him. He is an old school type power forward but he played for Calipari so running is not an issue. He is already 24, and is a senior. He is similar to Lee in the fact that there is not the mystery of untapped potential but there appears to be no mystery to the fact that he will be a good player. He is a second round pick in most mocks but maybe moving up.

Lee should not have been a sleeper. He was a high school all american and rumored to be a lottery pick out of high school. Isiah was smart to pick him. He fell because his college career was unspectacular and scouts had seen so much of him he did not have that hidden potential mystique that guys like Donte Green have.

Yeah Shan is apparently too nice and shy in these unfamiliar surroundings but he could bounce back once he gets some what accustomed to these new settings

As for the steal, typically that would be a late selection on a good team making a contribution... so whoever the Spurs pick

Yeah I read that too. Looked like he was nervous at first but he started playing better as time went on. His intangibles don't really translate well in a pre-draft camp setting so I wouldn't be too worried about him. I tell you what though, game on the line, there might not have been a player out there last season over Shan Foster that I would've wanted taking a shot to win a game...

I've never seen Shan play, but I read about the Shan makes me think of Dick Barnett. Tall, slender but strong, a very good, but unorthodox shot and a good defender. Barnett also wasn't the guy to beat players off the dribble.

Some other candidates to be steals are Devon Hardin and Jason Thompson. Hardin is a big, strong physical player who boards well and plays good defense. He doesn't score a lot, but gives you some offense. He's a Nazr Muhammed + some o and plus some shot blocking.

Jason Thompson has a good all around game. Playing in a small school makes his numbers suspect, so time will only tell how he makes the adjustment to the nba. With Thompson, it could be feast or famine. With Hardin, what you see is what you get. Hardin will never be a star, but he'll be a solid role player for some team who will be very happy they drafted him late in the first round or early in the second.

UMass' Gary Forbes led Team Two with a tournament-high 30 points. There isn't much more to be said about Forbes. When he's on the attack and not settling for jumpshots, he's extremely effective, as evidence by his 15-for-16 performance at the free throw line.

Forbes began the game in attack mode and never let up, constantly putting pressure on the defense and either making plays near the basket for himself or his teammates. It was somewhat reminiscent of his solid showing in Portsmouth, though a lot more efficient.

Over the past two seasons at UMass, Forbes has been what you'd call a volume scorer, someone who needs a lot of shots to get his points. That held true to some extent in Portsmouth, though Forbes showed some other dimensions to his game, such as the ability to pass and be an additional ball-handler at the small forward position.

It all clicked Wednesday night, giving many of the folks in attendance something to think about in the second round in June. Truth be told, if the second round featured only the most deserving players, Forbes would be a pretty safe bet to be drafted. The reality is that many of the teams drafting in the second round don't have roster spots available, and will take an international player and stash him overseas for a few years. Or, they'll take a flier on a younger player with a little more mystique about him.

This kid is ready to play at the next level for the right team.

My other steal

Jamont Gordon won't participate in this week's NBA Pre-Draft Camp, after all. Instead, his focus will be on working out for individual teams that have expressed interest, he said Tuesday. 'I've got a lot of workouts and lot of teams telling me I can probably slide into the first round and my stock has been rising," Gordon said."

My steal of the draft... Josh Duncan, PF from Xavier. Had a great NCAA tournament run, is a solid player on the low block, rebounds well. David West part 2.

Kyle Weaver, SG/PG (Wa.St) is a very good player. He has some things to work on, but he's a winning player that will contribute on a good team. He played some point for Washington state, and looked good doing it. Very athletic and fundamentally sound, is willing to play the team game.. eventually he could be a good second/third option when the polish comes.

I've been trying to sell Shan Foster to this site since March- see the long thread I wrote on him (if you have the powers of search).
