I hate to trade Lee, but if we can get a PG like Sergio Rodriguez back in return, he's a guy that can run D'Antoni's system just the way D'Antoni wants it. On top of that, we would get pick #13 which should yield us one of the following: Randolph, Westbrook, McGee, Love, Arthur, etc. and I think you have to make that trade.
Was thinking about this before, I just don't know if Portland would do it because they may not elect to bring Steve Blake back and you'd think Sergio Rodriguez would be the next in line to run that team, ahead of Jarrett Jack (who they do like), although it's unclear what the organization really thinks of him. He fell out of favor constantly with Nate McMillan last season. At one point he even lost his reserve role altogether to 4th sting PG Taurean Green before finally being re-inserted back into the rotation... You know what they could use David Lee even with Oden coming back. They were a pretty bad rebounding team last year. Aldridge averaged only something like 7.5 reb. per game for the club lead and they found out first hand that Channing Frye's not going to contribute much esp. in the rebounding dept. Bringing in a proven 10 reb. a night guy who still young goes a long way in suring up a major weakness in Portland. I'd explore this if I were the Knicks. Only thing is, you think JaVale McGee will be there at 13? Draftexpress and Hoopshype have this kid going at around #20. There's no way McGee will still be there at 20, telling you right now. But I tell you this, is we ever pulled this off I might want to go in a different direction now with our own pick - with Sergio Rodriguez here, I wouldn't be as interested in Bayless. Sergio Rodriguez can play ball, he's young, exciting and he can run a team. My plan would have to change - maybe now I don't move up and stand pat at #6 and go after a guy like Westbrook or a Anthony Randolph. Interesting... I'm in. Get Pritchard on the phone!
This is all very interesting. One thing I will note about the whole Portland PG issue. I wouldn't be surprised to see them let Blake go, but I don't think that will hinder them from trading Sergio, especially since they have Rudy Fernandez coming this year, who can play both guard possitons, so I don't think Nate would have a problem having him back up Jack, especially with Roy and Martell Webster already manning the SG slot.
I agree about McGee, he won't be there at 20, but I think theres a chance he's there at 13 and you're right if we get Sergio, we don't need to draft a PG since I think Sergio fits like a glove as a PG for D'Antoni. We could go with Mayo, Westbrook, Randolph at 6 and then hope someone falls at 13 maybe McGee? or we can trade one of those picks along with Zach.
This trade would open up a whole range of possibilities for us, I think it's a trade we have to make. Sorry David
