Raptors Still Fielding Calls For Ford/Calderon
May 22, 2008 - 4:43 pm
The Toronto Star -
The Raptors are still fielding calls for both Jose Calderon and T.J. Ford as the NBA Draft nears, according to The Toronto Star.

The team would prefer to land a post-threat in exchange for either of the point guards although a wing that can create his own shot isn't out of the question.

Plenty of teams covet Calderon via a sign-and-trade while a host of teams are interested in Ford as well because of his quickness and moderate contract ($8 million a year over the next three seasons).

Bryan Colangelo also hasn't ruled out the possibility of trading with any of the teams in the lottery to slide up the draft board, but he's also intrigued by the talent that will be available when Toronto comes up at the seventeenth pick. [READ]

Seriously. Deal Curry str8 for Ford or Curry + Nate+ Balkman for Calderon and the 13.

This is assuming the Raptors would want Curry. When we want him out so bad, why should we assume that he's wanted elsewhere? Curry is one of the worst players in the NBA. Dropping him probably makes us 10 games better. The Raptors can't be that foolish, are they?
Wishing everyone well. I enjoyed posting here for a while, but as I matured I realized this forum isn't for me. We all evolve. Thanks for the memories everyone.

As bad of an overall player Curry may be, his one strong point is what the Raps need....A post scoring threat.

I would not trade Curry for Ford. Big for small trades generally do not work out. Also, Ford has a degenerative back condition that could end his career at any time. He is a huge risk. He is the kind of guy I would like to see the Knicks get but I don't think they should give up much of anything for him. Curry, in the right situation still could be a dominant offensive force.

With this back injury I don't even know if I want TJ Ford anymore.

Curry for TJ Ford is the best scenerio for them. They lacked that true big man Curry can score inside. He can't do much else......well Toronto's current group of centers can't do much else but shoot....so they can platoon and actually pick up an element they don't have.

Jose Calderon is gonna get 38 minutes per.....they don't need TJ Ford. So they basically gain Eddy Curry for nothing they will actually miss......so what's the problem?

Toronto has to be looked at as the desperate team. If they won't take Curry for Ford to hell with them. Knicks should go after Baron.....if not then anoint Nate Robinson and everyone including me can stfu.

TJ is a 1st year "base year contract" player meaning they would need to get back double his contract. It would be easier by July but not by much. So Toronto money wise has to trade Calderon who has to be a sign and trade. You willing to pay Calderon with Curry type money? I don't.

For the young kids here who have no idea who you're talking about:

I'd rather have Calderon. TJ Ford is a hard foul away from possible paralysis.
