Imagine the thought of the collective bargaining agreement changing where as we trade our pick for cap room 3 years from now to find out that it was for naught? No F way can we trade a high draft pick for possible cap space 3 years from now---that is the absolute worst business move the Knicks can make. The last time I checked the problem with the Knicks is simply they sck--that they dont have good enough players. We need to build up the squad--not give players away for something that might not even be an issue three years from now. Taking away Zach Randolph and removing our high draft pick for nothing--can I hear anything more stupid?

Briggs then why is everyone saying lets do it. You want to draft a big who cant guard anyone and will go about 16th in the draft and Randolph who is athletic but doesnt understand the game. I think you know more than most people on the board but you either try and win now and not worry about FA in 2010 or clear space to try and get one of those guys.

King 1 what if the salary cap rules change 3 years from now? The collective bargaining agreement ends 2011. What if they collectively change the rules the prior year to make a long term deal? And in that change the cap rules change dramatically? What if you trade the pick just to get rid of the player and it ends up you never needed to do that? And what if that player at 6 becomes a star? Teh Knick sck because the players arent good enough--they were BAD 6 years before Zach came.

We were stupid using large ending contracts too trade for multiple LONGER term contracts---now you want to trade high lottery picks to get rid of a long term contract that has no cap consequence for 3 years? I don't mean to be abrasive but that is bad business.

I actually agree with Briggs here. If we get enough good players over the next 3 years, we should be able to include one of them as sweetener in a deal taking back Zach when Zach later. If the goal is to have cap space in 3 years, we don't have to get rid of Zach immediately (as much as I'd love to have him gone).

Let's just move on (forward in time), make this pick and see what we get. Let's just go according to plan right now. The brass is just going to have to make the very best pick that we can make. Six on down, whoever they will be, will be looked at closely. So when our turn comes, if one doesn't make our roster, then we'll have others who will.

Maybe we can get a guard and score a Chris Paul like player.
I'll never trust this' team again.

Zbo, suck, curry, Q, Malik, Jerome and Jeffries contracts end by the end of the next three years. We will definately have cap space.
I'll never trust this' team again.

Yes we will have cap space but that is just another year you have to wait and that free agent class inst near as good. SO all your saying is you can win with Randolph, and all the other misfits on this team. The only way you trade a bad contract is package Lee or a lottery pick

King 1 every player is going to sck in this draft--there will be no great players picked after 5 david lee is the best power forward in the nba the knicks have the personell to win 70 games now zach randolph is the devil jerome james will come into camp at 245 nate robinson will grow to 6-6

I'm not sold on trading the pick to create cap space.... unless it's Zach Randolph, or if we get another pick in return.

if you believe that then i fail to see what the problem is in trading the pick to unload contracts... i wouldn't give away the pick just to get rid of Zach either but if it's a deal that can unload Zach & another bad contract & still improve us next season i don't see how it's such a bad trade to make.

I think he was being more sarcastic than me at my best in that post.

Briggs has a bit of a point- but the CBA isn't being renegotiated early and it isn't going to change that much.

I don't think we can plan on one of those free agents coming here and rather than sign outright, you may have to do a S&T, so the more cheap talent, the better- a la Boston and KG.
