#1: Let's say Cleveland and New Orleans does not win a championship in the next two seasons and both players want to move on.
#2: What do you think LeBron is worth offering? Definately 20 million a year should do it. Maybe four years? What do you think Paul is worth offering? Right now he's going to make up to 6 million, in two more season, which is a qualifying offer. But after that' he's free to make a decision after the 2009-10 season. What do we offer him?
#3: Here's our contract situation/set-up for the next two seasons and a year beyond with these particular players. This scenario can help us land both players and still find some other good pieces. But we must protect the money from being contaminated again.
QO - denotes 'Qualifying Offer' PO -denotes 'Player Option'
suckbury 2008-09 - $21,900,000 (He's off the books. Question, where do we put the money until 2010-11?)
Zbo 2008-09 - $14,600,000 2009-10 - $16,000,000 (What to do with the expiring for next year?) 2010-11 - $17,000,000
curry 2008-09 - $9,700,000 2009-10 - $10,500,000 (QO) (What to do with the expiring for next year?) 2010-11 - $11,000,000 (QO)
Q 2008-09 - $8,800,000 2009-10 - $9,000,000 (PO) (He comes off the books)
Malik 2008-09 - $7,600,000 (He off the books. Question, where do we put the money until 20010-11 season?)
Jerome 2008-09 - $6,000,000 2008-09 - $6,600,000 (PO) (He comes off the books)
Jeffries 2008-09 - $6,000,000 2009-10 - $6,400,000 (What to do with the expiring for next year?) 2010-11 - $6,800,000 (PO)
I calculate a total of $79,000,000 here. How do we deal with the expiring contracts, in a year that we can go after these two stars? Do we trade them? Do we buy them out? How can we make $79 million dollars of cap space solid for 2010-11? Can it be done? We have a lot of options here, but what is the best way to go about doing it?
I'll never trust this' team again.
