Our pitching and hitting both blow. Lethal combination.
Thank you, Rick Brunson.

briggs, i must apologize for my fellow yankee fans. they didn't get the email back in 2001 w/ the new met fan rule for 2001 and beyond which states that since the mets could not beat the yankees when it counts (see world series 2000), all mets fans will consider each regular season subway series to be their world series.

so yankee fans, please join me in congratulating the mets for their world series victory...MISSION ACCOMPLISHED!!!

btw, briggs, you always seem to create thought provoking threads. it's tough to rank them all, but i'll put this one just ahead of your "johan petro - can't miss prospect" thread...

The best thing for Yankee fans would be for the Yankees to continue to be so bad that the Steinbrenners are forced to fire Cash-man.

Amen to that. EASILY the most overrated, underscrutinized GM in sports.

He's gotten a free pass for way too long, but now that Hank's in charge, no more.

Bye, bye, Brian ...

Hank's not in charge.

So it won't be Hank's decision whether to re-sign Cashman?

Whose decision will it be?

technically, it's a 50/50 split between hank and hal.

Agreed. But Hank is more involved with the team itself, while Hal handles most of the financial decisions.

This will be mainly Hank's decision.

No it won't. Nothing is mainly Hank's decision.

as long as it involves the expenditure of the team's finances it's not going to be a Hank only decision... Hal's going to have just as much input on the decision as Hank whether or not Cashman is given a new contract to continue as their GM.

Fine, I realize Hank is not "the boss," and that all major decisions have to be discussed between at least the two brothers. But if Hank feels strongly that Cashman should not return, I don't see Cashman returning.

to me it all depends on what better options are available to us... firing the guy just because you're not happy w/how the team's performed up to this point w/o having a contingency plan in place to upgrade is not a smart business decision if you ask me.

personally i woulda been fine w/putting Gene Michael back in charge of the franchise but i don't even know if he's even interested in taking on the position any longer at his age... but then there's always Steve Phillips... i'm sure he woulda done a much better job of putting this roster together... he seems to think he knows anything & everything about judging major league talent if you listen to his commentary on ESPN.

Bye, bye, Brian ...

at some point u have to hold the PLAYERS accountable for not performing.

the season's got a long ways to go, it's way to early to panic... i don't like seeing the Muts celebrate on our field anymore than you do but right now the team's got some key guys out & other guys underperforming their abilities... this has happened countless times in the past, Yankee fans go into panic mode, they call for everyone's head, & the team still manages to make the playoffs every year... i've watched enough baseball to realize things can drastically change in the span of a few months... i know Yankee fans like to pretend they can build a better team than what they got but in reality they don't know jack squat about contract negotiations with players' agents or what goes on behind the scenes in terms of dealing w/ownership (myself included)... we have some good players on this team that other teams would love to have... we have some good young talent & prospects in our farm system that can be used to make some moves at the trade deadline if the team is still underperforming at that point... we have an ownership that's shown time & time again their willingness to spend what it takes to bring a winning product on the field year after year... we have options available to us & there's still a long way to go in the season before most reasonable fans start to give up hope.
