from their scouting services. We hire Dantoni--and perhaps Lopez may or may not fit into what Mike wants to do--do the Knicks stay with taking the BPA on their board or do they now have to switch the board to players who conform with Mike's style of play? Would they for example take a player they rank well down on the list just to appease the new caoches style over what the scouts decide is the BPA by a distance

I think there is alot to consider with your question. Prior to the draft there generally is a buzz about a guy who preforms really well in camp, is from over seas or for some other reason shows immense potential that people were not aware of and impacts the draft order. The top 5 today very well might change and a guy like Lopez might slide up or down. I don't think there is anyway the organization reaches for a player with this pick but they might trade the pick. If the Knicks could pull off a trade like the Nets did where they got Jefferson and Collins for their pick, I think you consider it. Especially if the guy you want is available later. I think Lopez would do great with D'Antoni but I also think the Knicks have Curry and Randolph and need to see how those guys fit. Hopefully they get to move up. If they made a trade and stayed in the top 10 they could get a D'Antoni guy and more. Kevin Love or the 19 year old from Italy might be guys that knock Lopez out of the top 5.

he's not very athletic but he's light years better than Frye.

this guy is a legit 7 foot 270 pounder while Frye was a 6'11" 240 pounder

I was surprisingly impressed with Lopez the 5 or 6 times I saw him play. One time when I was less than impressed was in his final game. I know stat wise it looked pretty, but I thought defensively he was a no show which really hurt the team. But his teammates were equally bad on defense which didn't help his cause so it's kind of hard to put any blame on him. Just some things I noticed on defense which made me question if he could hack it in the low post against the bigger, stronger and quicker NBA players. He's a nice complimentary piece on a good team. We could do much worse than him in this draft.

I am intrigued by that Randolph kid and might take him over Lopez. If only Zeke tanked the end of the season....

God dammit we need Derrick Rose!!!

The best bet for NYK is to hope and pray they get the top two pick. There are decent players from three down but the top two players are the suerstars in the making. As for Mayo or Bayless I would take Bayless. I saw Mayo play two games and I came away so unimpressed. I know thats not a great sample, but the feeling I got was he is more hype than good.

Yeah, I think Lopez will have a pretty good NBA career, aka better than Frye, maybe an all-star a few times, but he's not going to be a can't miss prospect. With the arrival of D'Antoni, I'm near positive we're going to take a guard or Anthony Randolph, but that's just me.

Not only is he pretty much non-existant on the defensive end for a big man, but he shoots a low % for someone who plays in the paint. I wouldn't touch him. I would imagine D'Antoni would take a player that would better compliment his style as opposed to taking the player they have ranked at 4.

I think you hit it right on the head right there. He shot very poorly for a big man. That tells me to stay away from him. This guy was a product of having the benefit of shooting a lot. This draft is pretty weak when you come to think of it. Lopez is like the mid first round selection if not lower first round. If he is going in the lottery then this is a indication of the weakness of this draft.

I was pushing for Lopez before I jumped on the Rose wagon, but now, since we have virtually no chance at Rose (or Beasley) I think Lopez would be a good pick up again, especially if Walsh is serious about making a pitch for LeBron. I can see this working.

I still think the Knicks need to try and pry away another pick somewhere.
I'll never trust this' team again.

I saw Lopez play a few times and every time I saw him is sucked. Comparing him to Frye isn't helping his cause btw.

I would rather resign Randolph Morris. Or draft his brother, the tougher one.

I guess the question really did not have as much as people dislike/like of a certain player. Rather--IF the Knicks had a guy like Lopez pegged as 4 BPA[who knows what they have] now that Dantoni is coach--does this scouting list of stay where the Knicks will just take the BPA on the list OR do they now have to CHANGE that list to conform with a new style of play. Does that BPA list change or do they stick with what they had?

Brooks Lopez shouldn't be on the list. I just don't think he's worth a selection.

As you can tell I don't care for the dude. If he was #4 on their draft charts, that means they may want him to start @ center. If they think that highly of him then they have a plan in place......curry traded?

Briggs- we have to take BPA - our team has too many deficiencies. Which position are we set at?

You take BPA & you have the flexibility of trading them down the line.

I think they'd draft him, and just have D'antoni coach him. I don't think D'antoni is incapable of getting productivity out of a big man. Shaq actually put up better numbers in phoenix this season than he did in Miami. I don't think Walsh would have hired him if he thought Mike was that limited of a coach.

On a another note it would be awfully Isiah Thomas-like of Walsh to have a certain player he'd like to draft in his sights, and then turn around and hire a coach that couldn't get much out of that player afterward.

And Lastly, I agree with everyone else that it wouldn't be a good thing if our scouting department had Lopez as the 4th best player. I don't think he'll be that good in the league.

Yes, Robin Lopez. I thought the Knicks could try for him when he decides to go pro. I think having both on the Knicks would be great.

You're right I guess the Knicks did not have him ranked top 4 certainly we took the best player available--and that will become apparent soon
