I think I might be in the minority here but I'd love to see the Knicks keep him. He'll probably never be a star but I love everything he brings to the table. Great size at 6'6", young, shows legit PG skills, smart/extremely crafty, a great defender, good leadership skills and can score when he has to. And I think he can tighten up his poor FG and FT shooting %s with continued hard work. I hope he's in D'Antoni's plans. I think he can help us regardless of whether we decide to play up-tempo or not. He's that glue-type of guy with a ton of intanibles that every team needs. Mardy has a chance to be one of the better role players in the league eventually. Just felt like chiming in with some love for Collins.

Any thoughts?

i made a comment the other day that i thought Collins would be much improved in D'Antoni's system because he'll be able to run more & not think so much trying to run a half court set... he looked really uncomfortable last year in the minutes he played... i think Mardy will be best used as a guy who will defend, get some steals & create some fastbreak opportunities, not trying to orchestrate an offense.

The single most important thing for Mardy is to get himself in shape.

I know he hurt his knee last year but by all accounts it was minor surgery and he never seemed to get down to weight.

I do think that Zeke yanked his chain far too many times.

I don't know about Mardy - I thought he was going to be real tough at one point but damn that shot is so god-darn awful. It's really hard for me to believe that a guy with his kind of skill (ball handling and passing) can't improve his shot. What a shame.

I think thats the key. He may improve some in the open court, but his putrid shooting (35%) will keep in cemented to the bench. D'Antoni likes shooters and this team is devoid of good shooters. Other than Curry and Lee, no one shoots over 50%.

I support the D'Antoni hire but he has his work cut out for him because of the many poor % shooters on this team(Balk, Collins, JJ2, Zach, Craw, Q). I just don't see all of these guys in the daily rotation.

I think all of the young guys Isiah drafted need to be given a chance. They haven't really been coached and their situation has been so dysfunctional it is unfair to make a determination on how they are going to be as nba players.

...Other than Curry and Lee, no one shoots over 50%...

And Curry and Lee aren't even shooters. That 50% comes from shooting a couple feet from the basket. I'm not knocking 'em but, whoa, we're going to immediately need a couple of shooters to make the new system work at all.

Mardy Collins? C'mon man. There's guys in the league who just have it and some who don't. Mardy Collins isn't an NBA player.
Thank you, Rick Brunson.

Oh yeah? Go ask Duke coach Mike Krzyzewski who back in 2006 compared Mardy to Walt Frazier. Krzyzewski: "He's a smooth player & one of the better players we've played against in the last couple years. We put good pressure on the ball and thought we might be able to wear him out. He didn't get worn out. He was just there all the time. He's a really, really good player - and I've seen good players... He's going to be a hell of a player for a long time." We're talking coach K here man. That's quite an honor.

Also in '06 he severely outdueled Chris Paul in a game Temple had against Wake Forest. A game Temple untimately lost but not because of Collins. In that game Collins had 25 points and 7 steals while holding Paul to only 9 points. After that game Temple coach John Chaney stated, "he outclassed and outplayed him, there's no question about it."

Again, Collins can help a team in a great number of areas. He's a very rare NBA player in terms of what he brings to the table. Very unique and hard to compare to anyone else. With regular time in some team's rotation he'll prove he's worth his weight in gold. I just hope it's with us. To say he's not an NBA player is just plain rediculous.

This is just mind blowing what Isiah did with all this players...
Clearly he has a touch of evil.
