"There is a possibility D'Antoni will hire a defensive-oriented assistant to replace Marc Iavaroni, who left after the 2006-2007 season to coach Memphis." - Berman

There is also a possibility that George Gervin will show up for a tryout in October.

If D'Antoni and Kerr's "last straw" was over the suggestion of a defensive-oriented assistant, why would he concede his lacking that skill-set in New York?

There Is No Such Thing As A Defense Oriented assistant...... only players who take pride in playing defense.

Let my people run!

"One of the first plays Mike D'Antoni is expected to draw up as the Knicks' new coach is for Stephon Marbury to run up the Garden floor ... and out the door back to Phoenix to rejoin the Suns.

Once D'Antoni is formally named to succeed Isiah Thomas, he is expected to try to make a push for two of his favorite Suns - forward Boris Diaw and guard Leandro Barbosa, who reportedly have fallen out of favor with Suns management. According to a person close to D'Antoni, one of his first moves would be to get the Knicks to offer Marbury and his expiring $22 million contract as a central part of the deal."

Everything the media is printing right now is pure speculative GARBAGE and nothing more.

It's not fact, it's not even rumor, it's a journalist speculating and trying to make it sound factual so he can print his stupid article.

This is no different than during the season where any random article has us wanting to desperately trade for a player who just so happens to be on the team we're facing that night.

IGNORE it...entirely.

The PCs, although dolled up, gave more insight to what we're doing.

Walsh wants to improve now while also still trying to get flexible for 2010.
DAntoni comes in and both he and Walsh hint they want to win now (maybe tossing that 2010 plan) and that we shouldn't expect him to just try to coach us the way he coach the Suns - and also to expect roster changes (even though they tried their best to dodge those questions, you could tell by their demeanor, they need to and will make changes).

That's all I need to know as a fan. When those changes and hirings are announced that's when I'll start to care.

I put less faith in these articles than I do any Knick fan stating his/her own opinion right now.

Its ok for a writer to project an opinion, but the fans too many times take further. We fans somtimes talk like we all intimate on the facts and actually can project what they are thinking!

Theres no way Stephon for Diaw and Barbosa works. Phoenix isnt going to sign someone just to make it work.

franco - you have hit on a major reason why newspapers and traditional broadcast outlets are bordering on the edge of irrelevance. Information and opinion have been blurred to the point where "fair and balanced" is nothing more than transparent camouflage for political bias. Random speculation over Marbury being the first Knick sent to LaGuardia is nothing more than one persons crusade for attention.

I could care less about mentions of D'Antoni's salary but the press will be the first to demand accountability for every dollar translating into a championship ring.

Can he get his suitcase unpacked before trades are made for him?

Nah, let's start a rumor about Patrick Ewing...

"D'Antoni wasn't asked about David Lee, one of the Knicks' more valuable assets. Lee can rebound and run but D'Antoni tends to favor forwards who can shoot. In fact, a Suns official claims that when the team discussed the possibility of drafting Lee in 2005, D'Antoni wasn't enamored with the idea.

The possibility of Lee being packaged in a trade with a teammate with a big contract (Malik Rose) is a distinct possibility."

- Frank Isola

So let me get this straight. D'Antoni wasn't asked about David Lee but a trade of Lee is a distinct possibility.

okayfine

What Isola said about Rose makes no sense since he is an expiring deal. Lee would need to be paired with a Randolph or Jeffries.

This team is NOT a news material and will not be for a long time.

arkrud - not a news material?

The Knicks are the most documented franchise in the history of the NBA and will always be a story (for better or worse) on SportsCenter, CNN, NBC, ABC and PTI whenever something happens. It IS the nature of being in New York City. David Stern understands that it benefits the entire league to have a positive story eminating from NY over a negative one as the sponsors who pay the freight have deep advertising roots in New York.

Don't kid yourself son.

New York is still one huge epicenter of the marketing communications universe and Cablevison owns the franchise for a damn good reason.

Unfortunately, Critical anaysis of the Knicks is harder to find than Pearl Washington.

I thought Tom Brady's slam of ESPN was interesting. HE basically said they were void of content.

Yet Tom is a winner and winners also get major starphuching coverage which translates to major endorsement dollars!

THe press makes the star players into icon winners and they create the hype. Both good and bad.

The legacy of Brady gets enhanced as many of his highlights are shown over an over again which builds his "Branding" even further!

And when you have a child out of wedlock and date supermodels its also news!

Well, uh, heh, he certainly wasn't one about three months ago.
